Handicapped/disabled Accessible Parks

Yahoo Message Number: 77110
Is there an RV resource (print or web) that specifically provides information on RV parks relative to being handicapped/disabled accessible to the traveler and his/her caregiver? Even though there are A.D.A (Americans with Disabilities Act)requirements, my experience is that there are very few parks having site/s and facilities friendly to handicapped/disabled. The were no results on the FMCA, Woodalls and Good Sam sites using variations of the Keyword: handicapped accessible rv park listing. Most references were directed at making the RV rig handicapped accessible. Appreciate any feedback, thanks.

Ron,

I've never seen a publication like that but it would be a great idea. Perhaps Woodalls could add that to their search criteria.
In Florida, most State Parks have very nice disabled sites that are clearly marked and reservable. In addition, most Corps of Engineers parks have them as well. Most of those parks will provide a half price discount for permanently disabled patrons. (might have to be a resident) each state policy varies. check out:

On the www.recreation.gov site where all the Corps of Engineers parks are listed there is a box to check when you search called "Accessibility Needs".
On www.reserveamerica.com (where commercial and state parks are listed) after you search for an area, select "spot with" and then accessibility. Then look at the site list to find a site. One place that has great Handicapped sites is Rainbow Springs State Park at Dunnellon, FL. Paved back in sites with paved sidewalks to bath bldg.

Ron, I authored a book, Rvers Best Public Campgrounds, which you'll find at Amazon, which specifically designates campgrounds which are handicapped or not. Many in the book are handicap accessible.

Hope I have helped.

Email me directly if you have a question.
