Opening slide without running engine?

Yahoo Message Number: 77533
On my 2000 magna I have to run the engine to operate the slide. Has anyone made a modification that will allow the slide to be operated without running the engine?
There are times while I'm parked for an extended time that I would like to close or open the slide but I dislike starting the engine just to operate the slide.

The slide is an HWH hydraulic slide.

On our Magna we had a short time when it was true that we needed the engine running to operate the slide. But when we first got it, we only had to have the ignition key "on". And now, we only need to have the ignition key "on". I discovered that the ground connection at the solenoid next to the hydraulic pump in the bay area under the slideout was bad. I simply undid the bolt, sanded off the rusted area, reconnected the ground ensuring good metal-metal contact and then heavily coated everything with a rust-proofing paint to prevent future corrosion.

I can operate the slide by turning the ignition key on without starting the engine. However, if the battery voltage is low then the slide will not operate. Starting the engine will then allow the alternator to bring the voltage up and operate the slide. Perhaps your batteries are not charged enough? Have you tried the battery boost switch with the key on?

Suppose coaches may be different:)?
I understood that we were to have the enigne running before open/close of slide was attempted. Also suppose to open a window, or the door, to reduce load on the motors (learned this the hard way:)!)
May not be that way for all of the CC's... But, we have no problems on power with engine running.

Pete,

On my 2005 Inspire all I have to do is turn the ignition on to operate my slide outs.
Have you tried this.

I have tried just turning on the ignition and then trying to operate the slide. On a few occasions the slide will operate once. Mostly though I just get a slight running of the hydraulic pump and then nothing. Perhaps I have a battery issue.
I also received an email to check the contacts at the motor. When I get the opportunity I'll try to run the complete wiring system to the hydraulic pump and check and clean all connections.
If I do solve this problem I'll post my solution. Thanks to all for your input on this problem.
Oh, I just noticed a typo on my first message with my coach number. This one is correct.

I crawled into the electrical bay and played with the wires running to and from the relay that controls the hydraulic pump for the slide. All I really did was loosen the nut on the wire going from the relay to the pump, moved it around a bit and tightened the nut. Voila! Tonight, I turned on the ignition, and successfully retracted the slide without having to start the engine.
Should anyone want to try this, be forewarned that the large red wire on the relay closest to the drivers side of the coach (on my magna) is hot and should your wrench contact ground while touching this connection you will experience what an arc welder sees every time they start their arc. Don't need to ask me, just trust me. The other heavy wire on the passenger side of the relay is not hot until the switch on the control panel is activated.
Thanks to all for your suggestions and making me realize that the engine should not need to be running to operate the slide. Newbees like me need all the help we can get.

I have had a 2000 Magna Indugence since new. I have been to the the HWH factory and they recommended that you have your engine running to retract or extend your slide. It just works better when you do. No you don't have to but it just works better because of the alternator running.
