I'm going to replace our "manual" ZipDee patio awning with an electric/automatic awning. I'm not sure what to do with the original ZipDee patio awning. The mechanism is in good shape, the canvas is in "OK" condition. Didn't use the patio awning much since we have window awning on those windows and didn't like taking the time to deploy the big awning. Feel kinda bad just leaving it at the place that installs the new electric awning. Any suggestions. Awning is 19' long, light colored canvas,

If you lived near Eugene, I would say take it to Northwest RV. Do you have a local Airstream dealer, maybe he could use it, other wise list it on E-bay or Craigslist.

If it were mine, I'd hang on to the "old-fashioned, manual ZipDee," because in a couple of years you could be wishing it was back on your coach. There is nothing better built and more reliable than a ZipDee and the customer service people don't run and hide if you do need to contact them.

If the electric awning you're going to use is a Girard, I can say they are a good customer-oriented company and we have enjoyed using it since 2004! I did have to change out the motor once and recieved great technical support.

The new electric awnings are not that great either. The awning extends to such a horizontal plane that it doesn't block much sun and when the wind comes up it retracts itself. We have wished many times that we still had the older style which is much more flexible in its useage.

The suggestion re: Airstream, was a good one. You could try the Airstream forums (www.airforums.com), and place an ad there. Also, try your local Craigs List - great way to clear out the garage.

Zip Dee came up with a mod where the support arms attach at the roof line instead of on the roller assembly and it makes it a lot easier to operate the awning. Call them in Chicago, and maybe you all can't get together at a FMCA rally. I had them swap mine at a CC rally in 2000.
