Coach Batteries

Hi All,

Need to replace my two Group 31 chassis batteries on my 07 Allure. So confused so many options. Checked out Trojan, Lifeline, Interstate etc. Do not know if the more expensive battery really makes a difference in the long run for a chassis battery. Do I want a dry cell, wet cell, AGM or glass? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is an intermediate option that doesn't get mentioned much on this site. It is a maintenance free wet cell battery which does not require one to monitor the water levels. I put two interstate versions on my coach for the chassis starting battery. They are priced between the regular wet cell and the AGM batteries and they do not emit the gases that corrode the battery box.

Thank you for that comment. That is the type of battery that i have now. I am not the original owner and not sure how old the existing batteries are. I do not believe they are original.

You do get what you pay for, but there are options for you to consider. I can help you with Lifelines, but if your on a budget, you can go for Napa or Interstate Workaholic Group 31's. They are wet batteries, but sealed. Napa runs about 100 bucks and the Workaholic are usually around 125. I would not use anything but AGM or at least sealed lead acid.

There should be a date code sticker on the battery. Should be alpha numeric. An example would be "E9" would be May 2009. Your batteries may be OK. Have them tested and you may be able to get a couple more years out of them.

There is often a sticker of the battery that will give you an idea of the age. The batteries also have coding on them that indicate when they were manufactured. When I replaced my sealed interstate batteries there was a manufacturer's sticker with the month and date. Also, the newer test equipment is a lot more accurate in assessing the condition of your battery.
