LED light bulb source

Dan (and anyone else who has purchased LED bulbs),

Where did you buy your LED bulbs? I purchased one from a Hong Kong source as a test and found that after 3 months only 9 of the original LEDs in the bulb were still burning. If I tapped the bulb a few more would come on briefly, but I would not buy from this source again. There may be other sources that sell better quality bulbs. I know Lowes sell the bulbs at over $9.00 each, but that is more than I want to pay for them when I need 40 bulbs.

Two sources.

I am in the process of converting my Halogen fixtures to LED. I purchased replacement LED fixtures from Kaper II a company that is an OEM provider of electrical lighting for vehicles to include the former CC.
The light fixtures fix exactly in the existing whole with a frosted glass screw on cover. The lights I bought are 3500 Kelvin and are a little whiter that the 10W halogen and appear much brighter. I bought six for the bedroom as a test. I ordered the LO9-0039-NW for $18.25 ea. When I received them I found that the connector is the same as on my coach but polarity was reversed and I had to cut the wires and reverse them to make it work. When I talked to John he said that these lights are specifically manufactured for a RV manufacturer that has reversed polarity from CC and most others; and were not intended for the general public. If I ordered a dozen or so they could probably reverse the wiring to avoid the issue and make the warranty issue irrelevant since I was modifying the light by reversing the wires. They make a similar light (L18-AA-GL-GL) that has spring loaded clips that hold it in the ceiling but are more difficult to install and considerably more difficult to remove in the event of failure. I don't believe they come with a connector so you would have to cut off your old connector and slice the two together. I like the lights very much and will continue to convert as I go along. One benefit is that I now have additional spare fixture parts for the other rooms in the coach. Their web site is a little confusing for finding the led lights but they are very helpful. I also purchased a couple G-4 replacement LED's in 3500 Kelvin 180 lumens ( a lot of lumens) dimmable for $16.26 ea. Just to check them out and I put them in the existing bathroom ceiling fixtures where they provide great light far superior to the halogen but not too white.. You can see that it is a better deal to buy the whole fixture. I also replaced my step well courtesy light with an LED L16-0000 for $2.76 so very cool. Phone number is 360-423-4404
I have also purched replacement led G-4 bulbs from LEDLight.com 15W halogen equivalent 52 lumens (dimmable) for $11.99 with free shipping. 15 Watt LED is comparable to 10 W halogen and am using them in my existing ceiling fixtures instead of the halogen 10w bulb. The color is a little different but they to be lasting and they certainly use less power for dry camping.
I have also replaced the florescent tubes over the sink with LED strips and love the light,

I have not used the LED bulbs, but in the past I ordered other lights from 1000bulbs.com and was very satisfied with the price and quality.

Follow on. I purchased a couple Lowes LED replacement bulbs and through them away. Two things, they are 10W equivalent and 2700 Kelvin rated and they produce less light than the 10 W halogen and are pinker or yellower in color.

I've been studying replacement lamp specs for home and the coach for 5 years now. I still am using Quartz Halogen lamps. Whether R20 50 or 75 watt, R30 or R50 at home there isn't a florescent that come within 1/2 the light output and typically its 1/3. Now as we get older we need twice the light to see as we did 10 years previously I've been told and have read; so' I don't doubt it. So now the lights are getting dimmer! Thanks Uncle Sam! LED seems to be the ideal solution once they get the color temperature situation worked out. Blue white 6500 deg. Kel is so unnatural. As I remember from years of film photography and working in theatre, 5300 degrees is about what daylight is ranging down to 2200 for a Arizona sunset. Quartz halogen is 3200 degrees and an incandescent lamp is around 2700 degrees in color temperature. So if I have a G4 20 watt lamp that puts out 560 lumens at 3200 degrees, I want a LED to do the same thing. If it takes 4 watts rather than 2.5 I don't care, I want a direct replacement. Is that to much to ask? Don't ask me to change I'm getting blinder each day!
