Black tank question

Yahoo Message Number: 78950
I have a sudden black tank issue. Everything has been just fine up until today. (We are in a campground with full hook ups but I always leave the blank tank valve closed until I need to dump. We have been here for two weeks). Today when I used/flushed the toilet I got a 'blow back' of foul air. Then there was a gurgling of water/air for a minute. I went out and dumped thinking I had miss calculated and we were full. But even after dumping the black tank I'm still getting a blow back.

Any clues on what has happened?

Nah. Dead calm.

I've given the tank a good flush and think it's working better. But at the moment I have suspended work. We 4 mowers and edgers going around us for the past hour and I can't hear my self think. So I'll resume my investigation later. Then there's the leave blowers.
I've also got to clean all the grass off the side of the motorhome. To say I'm not a happy camper at the moment is an understatement.

We can't even hear the TV.

Bruce,

Are any of your vent fans running? They would create a vacuum that will suck tank fumes into your coach when you operate the flush.

Thanks. No vent fans or a/c working.
I think I may have, last week, let the black tank get tooooo full. Some 'bit's may have clogged the vent. I have done a flush and it seems to be better. I've just abused one of the guys with the line trimmers for flicking up stones. So until they have gone I'm keeping low!!!!

I've had a similar problem. On my coach, the down tube from the toilet to the tank gets pretty close to the bottom of the tank. It doesn't take much to clog it up there. A good flushing usually does the trick.

Me, too. If you were parked for two weeks with the black tank drain open, toilet paper and solids pile up because there is no liquid in the tank. Eventually, it blocks the pipe from the toilet. The solution is to get a hose inside the bathroom and shoot water down the toilet to break it up and disperse it. And never park with the black water drain open again!

Thanks for the replies. We have been sitting for 2 weeks. But I keep the valve closed and dump every 5-6 days. I just lost count and I think it filled more than I had figured. I gave the tank a good flush and all now seems ok. Something must have blocked the vent.

have had the same condition. There will be a stopage or blocked condition in the down pipe. I move it to the tank with a houshold plunger.
