Keyless Entry/Alarm System

Yahoo Message Number: 78996
The entry door and bay doors will not lock with the key fob or the touch pad. However, if I manually lock the entry door with the key, it will unlock using the key fob. I'm wondering if it may be the control module. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Gary. The problem is most likely the wiring harness to the door. When the wire strands start to break because of flexing the affect is what you describe. It happened to me. Bob 06 intrigue 12047

Gary, I had the same problem including my steps not retracting. As Bob did, I replaced the wiring harness and solved the problem.

Thanks Bob and Dan! I guess I need to trace the harness back and figure out where it terminates, hopefully under the easily removable dash 'cover'. I suppose if I want the numbers on the wires I'll need to order a new harness from CC?

Gary: The wires terminate in various places. Slide out the generator and then up in front of the passenger is where you can get to the wires. I contemplated making a new harness because I had Kevin Waitte look for one for me and he couldn't find one. He's a very good resource for parts and information. I instead pulled the harness into the door (there was enough slack) and then just spliced the wires together. Next time I will have to make a new one and like you would really like to have one that had the wires with numbers on them. I would not look forward to making a new one. Besides with making a new one I would need to figure out some sleeve to put around it that would slide when the door is opened and closed.

Well, after a couple of hours of testing, I've decided it's the Trimark black box that has issues. I was able to get the bay doors to lock by jumpering power to the bay door lock relay, so it seems the wiring harness may not be the problem. Going to try to find a new controller box and see what happens...

Gary, I had my harness replaced at Oregon Motorcoach a couple years ago. They may be able to help you locate one.

Gary I made the same decision and purchased a new Trimark box but that did not fix the problem If the wire harness has not been replaced in a 06 intrigue it will fail at some point Bob 06 intrigue 12047

Hmmm...I hope the new box works but will still try to locate the other end of the harness and plan for the swap out. Is there a grommet in your door frame, where harness passes through? I have nothing there, just a hole in the frame where the harness can continue to chafe.

Gary. I don't intend to always have bad news, but when I purchased the Trimark the model box was discontinued and I got the last one from CC The new model is not wire to wire interchangeable The wiring diagrams must be used to get the same functions maybe the service companies in Oregon can help I did not have a grommet. I think I have found another of the old model...keeping fingers crossed until it arrives now...Bob you do seem to have less than great news for me! Being a newbie I guess I need to expect to hear a few things I don't like too much, but can't wait until I have an easy one for you to weigh-in on! Gary 06 Intrigue 12068

There is a grommet in the door frame that the cable is supposed to slide whenever you open or close the door. Over time the wires break.
It looks like a bad design but don't know how I would recommend doing it differently.

Another member of this post advised to use shrink tubing around the harness where it exits the door frame and enters the door itself.
I choose to use multiple layers and heated it so that it is curved and slides into the door through a slightly enlarged hole.
Inside the door I added a spring so that the wire was pulled into the door under a very light tension-

It works perfect and the wires do not bend any more.

Hope this makes sense,
Russ

I reamed out the 2 holes that the cable passes through in the door right to the edge of the door frame. No Grommet. This made the bend in the cable not as sharp and allows the cable to freely move in and out of the door. I put a small plastic wedge in the grommet in the coach frame to prevent the cable from sliding at this point and keep a coat of superlube on the exposed wire. I also installed a spring in the door to create tension but have now removed it as it seems it was not needed. Seems to be holding so far. I did purchase a spare harness from Kevin W. in case I need it down the road but am dreading the job as all the wires in my old harness are Black and not numbered. Will have to trace them to the pins in the plugs , then label them.

UPDATE - I received the new Trimark black box and it worked! Thanks to Kevin Waite, my keyless entry/alarm system is once again functional! He also was able to get me 2 new fobs and a new LED that was broken. I had read good things folks had said about Kevin, and now you can add me to that list! He also has the window weep hole covers for $3 and I stocked up on those too.
Btw, I am sourcing the original cable for the door harness and will be replacing mine soon. I traced the cable into the door frame and out to the cavity in the front, where you access the windshield wiper motors. My 'harness' is connected to the wires that run to the relays, etc. with red butt splices. I am wondering if this was originally a connector and has been modified on my coach. Does anyone know if they have a connector there? If so, a pic would be awesome so I can duplicate it. Thanks!
