Adios Toyo Tires

I just replaced the original 8 Toyo tires that came on our Intrigue (12R x 22.5) with Bridgestone R250 tires from Les Schwab Tire Co. in Junction City. There is only one word that adequately describes this upgrade. WOW!
The Toyos had a manufacture date age of 8.5 years but never were a problem. We decided to purchase new tires after reading many of the articles on this forum.
About 10 miles down the road on the new Bridgestones my co-pilot asked

Dick,

Did you stay with 12R22.5 size or did you change to 295X80X22.5? I have 12R's that need to replaced, however, don't want to have to change speedo.

Jack:

My CC spec. sheet for 2005 330 Inspire calls for 11R22.5 on the 2005 Inspire. Using 12R instead of 11R has a difference in Revs. per mile.

The XZA3 11R22.5 H is 503 revs/mile, the XZA2 Energy 295/80R22.5 is also 503 revs./mile and the XZE 12R22.5 is 486 revs/mile. A definite difference in your speedo reading. But is it that substantial? I don't know.
To add to your decision both the 295 and 12R requires a min. spacing of 13.2 ins. between the duals. If you have that, great. If you don't have this spacing, you may be risking/sacrificing a shorter tire life/performance, not to mention, not complying to Michelin's limits. The min. spacing for the 11R is 12.5 ins.

Let us know what you end up using.

Dick,

We made the same decision and went with the R250s on our Inspire with the very same results. We are extremely pleased with the difference in ride and handling. Only have a couple thousand miles to date but so far so good.
We did decided to go to 295R8022.5 over the original 11R22.5 for a little extra weight capacity as the 11Rs were right at max rating when loaded to the GVWR. We did have the recommended dual spacing and the 295s are the same diameter as the 11R so the speedometer and gearing are still at design. The speedometer was verified with GPS.

Very please with the R250s!

I installed them on my 05 magna and had no problems at all. I think they are a great tire and would reccomend them, especially since the price is much better than the other brands.

One more comment on the Bridgestone tire change, we bought them on the recommendation of Bob Dickman (Les Schwab dealer) in Junction City to save the sales tax in other states. They were very professional, promised the 8 tire installation in 3 hours and completed it in 2 hours forty five. I did a valve upgrade that gets all valves pointing out rather than half pointing in. Throw in free popcorn and what more could we ask for!

I am going with Dick Lorntson's recommendation (Precision Frame & Alignment, Inc; 763-241-9474 or 866-473-2632) of the Bridgestones too, except for Michelin's on the front.
Even better Dick's shop is now a member of the Bridgestone National Preferred program! All Bridgestone RV and truck tires are available at a reduced cost.

The speedometer is digital and can easily be changed by program change to ECM. All you need to revolutions per mile and the Cummins or Cat shop can reprogram the module. I had 12R Toyo's and went to GY G670's. A visit to the local Cummins shop and they reprogrammed speedometer in about 10 minutes at no charge.

Even though I had Cummins change the ECM, the speedometer and odometer on my 2000 Allure were still off by 2%, the difference in size between the original Toyos and the Goodyears. Both are higher by about 2%. I was told there were dip switches on the back of the speedometer that would fix the variance, but I could not find anyone that know what to do.
I have a Silverleaf VMSpc that reads correctly and don't bother with the analog speedometer.

I just took advantage of the Michelin Advantage program this AM. I Replaced my almost 9 year old 12R-22.5 Toyo's with 12R-22.5 XZE Michelin's. The program saved me $160 a tire. I drove to Colton truck for a alignment and torsion bar bushing replacement. I also ask them to check my "aluminum" radiator and replace the coolant filter. On completion they gave me the best news I could think of. My radiator is not aluminum it is steel???? I am the original owner and it had not been replaced. That was about a $6000 gift, I have been waiting for it to fail.

Lowell, I also had a steel radiator in my 2002 Allure and it rusted out because it had been plugged up with dirt and debrie one time in the lower section. I just replace it in Tucson at Premier MCS by Eric. What a great company to work with. I also had them replace the shocks with Road King shocks and 3 new ride height valves, what a differenc in the ride.
