Metal Shower Hose

Hi - We have a Symmons setup in our shower to include a metal 59" brushed nickel shower hose with a swivel at the hand held shower sprayer end. Photo
here:

Anyway the swivel started to leak which I gathered was an O-ring. Sadly the swivel connection isn't serviceable which means a new hose. On the cheap you can get a plastic hose with no swivel which just doesn't quite cut it. It's like holding a small garden snake. Went this route at the Home Depot only to return my Moen purchase of both hose and sprayer. Buy it for looks, buy it for life somehow just didn't describe our experience with this product.

I called Standard Plumbing here in SLC, Ut and their entire store chain couldn't produce one brushed nickel hose. It turned into a special order item of $128.00 plus S/H charges plus sales tax plus a week+ delivery time (maybe). I ended up at www.faucet.com for $102.73 delivered in a couple of days. The product I got is here:

http://www.faucet.com/grohe-28-417-59-metal-hand-shower-hose-with-1-2-inch-connection/p54670 Initial impressions are good and it doesn't leak which is great. Unlike other faucet parts these hoses are pretty standard with 1/2" connections. Should anyone be in need of a new hose, this is one source. I can't say whether this is a good deal or the best price. But the hose is good and an exact replacement for the Symmons one.

Best - Scott

Went through the same scenario and was also shocked at what it cost for a replacement quality hose. You are correct the box store replacements are not nearly the same quality. I believe the one I ended up with was actually manufactured in Germany and the price reflected as much.

Dan - Ours was a product of Germany (Grohe) too. So far it's working fine. The hose lays nicely and the swivel makes the whole system a pleasure to use. Beyond a certain point in life you need those little extra conveniences. Time will tell how well the swivel fittings and O-rings handle the minerals in the water. For the price I hope the Germans anticipated this and put good stuff in there. Thanks for your thoughts.
