Death Valley-Thanks

Thanks to all who responded with excellent info on Death Valley. We will soon be leaving for Prescott, AZ (from Las Cruces)and then on to Las Vegas. Our ultimate goal is Oregon via Amador wine country in CA. So, Death Valley crossing, highway 190, looked like a good short cut and a chance to visit sights on the way. But, after all the good advice it looks like another route is in order. Maybe on to Carson City and then west via 50 or 88. Hope to see some some of you on the road.
