Wires to entry door

Yahoo Message Number: 79214
I was doing some routine maintenance on the coach after returning home from AZ and CA. I noticed that the grey protective covering on the wires that go into the entry door is broken. I had the wind catch the door and break the cheap restraining part on the door. I replaced it with one that Kevin Waite and JD sell, so that won't happen again. While there is no damage to the black , unnumbered wires, I would guess that it is a matter of time before, there will be some wear and I may run into unlocking/locking issues with the touch pad. For now, I will spray some WD40 on the wires to ease the resistance to movement. I would guess that the protective grey tubing is put on , over the wires, before all the connections are made, and that it will likely be a bear to replace that protective sheathing. Any ideas out there for someone who has already worked on theirs , so that I don't have to re-invent the wheel

Ron The gray plastic covering is part of the cable which is why it is called a cable with jacket rather then a wire bundle this particular cable was not properly selected for the flexing application and cracking is very common individual strands of the wires also break due to flexing which results in intermittent operation of the locks the cable should be replaced which is what I did BOB 06 intrigue 12047

I don't have a wire cable running through my entry door hinged opening. I have spring loaded brass contact buttons on the door jamb and coach door frame. This seems like a much better approach, no wires to ever flex and break.
I have a 2005 Inspire 330 #51264. Was this standard, or had the previous owner make this change.

Our 2007 Inspire has the same setup. Doesn't look like it would be too difficult to modify the door and frame for this. I wouldn't expect any problems ever with this way of passing the signals from the door to the controller.

Bob - Where did you find the replacement cable? My research is telling me the original Olflex cable is a European version that is not available in USA. I've found the USA version, but it's a larger diameter, so I'm still looking... Gary 06 Intrigue 12068

My 08 Inspire (52093) also has the mating contacts in the door frame and door with no cable running between the two.
Be advised to periodically clean the contacts because if proper contact is not maintained with the door closed the steps will not retract reliably.
This was one of the first problems I encountered after purchasing my coach.

Kevin Reference has been made to a replaceable cable , with the grey flexible cover, that goes from the door to the chassis. The wires look all black, from those I can see. The answers I have received , so far, are about the brass buttons, but that is not is what is on my coach. You can not put a connector of any sort through the small hole in the door and frame, so the replacement , if there is one , will have to be wire matched some how. Can you shed any light on my arrangement. I am sure others will be interested in the solution.
