Colton Truck Terminal Garage is now on Facebook

Hi Folks,

Colton Truck, just west of the intersection of I10 and I215 in the LA area, have been the subject of much positive satisfaction for coach repairs and maintenance. In addition, it is a source for hard to get Country Coach parts.

Hi Everyone,

Just a word about Colton Truck, We have had nothing but PROBLEMS taking our CC to Colton Truck for service. First for an aliment, they cracked the fuel tank jacking it up. Second, we took it in for a yearly service, got home started the generator up and it dumped oil all over my driveway, it was a loose filter. Third we took it there to have them install an M&G brake in our tow CR-V. Started on a trip up to CC in Oregon, when the wire loom fell down onto the drive line and ripped out a lot of rhe wiring to the rear of the coach. They cut the wire ties holding the wire loom to install the new brake line for the CR-V. We will never take our coach back there ever again. To fix the Cracked fuel tank $2,500.00. To fix the wiring $3000.00. To clean the oil off the diveway a lot of hard work.

Hi Michael - Sorry for your experience with Colton Truck. I can't recall reading such a negative experience as you had. RV Service Review, has positive posts, from Good to Excellent, with one being my post.
Did you try to work any of this out with them? If so, what was their response? (Companies make mistakes, it is how they respond that can set them a part. But, they need the opportunity to do so.)
I'm not questioning your post, and suggest you too post to RV Service Review. I do wonder if Colton Truck (Not Colton RV.) was aware of your problems and their mistakes?

Be safe, and enjoy the RV!

I was shocked after reading your problems with Colton Truck. I have read nothing but great things about them and took my MH in their for service because of past posts about their service.
I had not problems with any service that they preformed. What if any was their response when you told them about the problems you had after service?

Mike,

I feel your pain. I had a leaking gasket between my turbo and exhaust manifold so I took my CC to Warren Cat for an estimate in Tulsa, Ok. I told them to not do any work on it before I saw the estimate and they took my engine apart and gave me a invoice for over $8K . Oh, I forgot to mention they crashed my steps in to a pole pulling it into the bay doing another $5300 in damages and had it in their shop all summer. I was just getting it out to get it all repaired and found a hydraulic fluid leak from my fan motor and hydraulic hoses because they ran the hoses over the exhaust pipe putting pressure and engine vibration on the manifold of the pump. I have almost a hundred miles on it since they worked on it and my hoses are melted and pump leaking and Cat says it's not their fault and they only warranty parts and labor for a year for the Caterpillar parts they put on and anything else is 30 days. If I wouldn't have noticed the leak spraying on the exhaust pipe it probably would have caught the Coach on fire. Cat wouldn't even send one of their mobile trucks out to look at it because they said it was out of warranty. I never even told them to do the job and they don't think they have any liability in this. Unreal!

Mike - I'm really sorry to hear about this type of superficial labor and gross incompetence. I've had a few near misses myself but nothing that compares with your story. I do think Colton Truck needs to cover the damages. But the repairs have now escalated into something more complex than a routine service stop. And who there is really qualified to effect those repairs with the craftsmanship needed to ensure trouble free operation?? Best of luck to you on getting a satisfactory resolution to this outrage! Please keep us informed if you can.

I too am baffled to hear of your Colton experience. I had my charge air cooler replaced there last month. It is a big job--entire cooling package had to be removed. The regular Colton CAC guy was out that week and Ed, the shop foreman, did the job personally with a helper. I was there the whole time staying the coach. I watched him in actio and I can tell you Ed is highly professional, very friendly, meticulous and seemed extremely competent. They don't get any better than this. In addition, I believe that Colton uses charge air coolers of a considerably higher quality than any I have seen with built in expansion joints made by the company that does them for semi-trucks. They actually keep them on hand for our coaches as well. And they fit perfectly.
The work was done perfectly as far as I can tell, and on time. I stayed at Colton outside their building for a couple of nights. That is another matter. I would not recommend that for the faint of heart, particularly if you are unarmed. Seriously. I heard that they found a couple of burned bodies in the motel next door right after I left. It is a scary neighborhood with attack dogs in every back yard. Colton was working on a couple of big commercial trucks they had to leave next to me and they put chains through the wheels! So, just drop your coach off and pick it up when done if possible (they are locked inside the building).

Ken retired Caterpillar Service Tech, You shared a bundle from a repair from a Cat Dealer, My last Cat dealer I worked for was Ringpower in Tampa four years ago at that time I retired and bought our 99 Allure. The shop I worked is first Class. With many motorhomes deliverd to Lazy Days in Seffner Florida there was lots of Motorhome work done there both warranty and non warranry. If there was ever an issue like your story explaines our shop always would made good and trust me very rarely! Ringpower is one of the largest Cat dealers in the world. Sad to hear your story. This to me is work done out of Cat Guidlines and the Dealer should be reported to the Regonal office in Ok. I have worked on many a Cat product and have many letters sent to my service Mgr. on my repairs, Rebuilds etc. on how the work was done correctly and quickly. In my other life I always treated a Job like I was working on my own Eqpt. Trust me there are thousands of honest techs out there as I was one of them. I remember one time we did a repair and disabled the Air Cond. system. We repaired it a no cost. Also if we stained a carpet and it was not cleaned to make the Cust. happy we hired a pro to replace the carpet again no cost to the Cust. I wont go there on Marine engines and Yachts but in the end we always had happy endusers. I worked for them almost 30 years and never had an unhappy enduser. Again Im sorry on how they treated you and for one they need to be reported to Upper Mgt. My 2 cents, BTW I was changing our Air Cleaner on our Allure as I have the Cummins 330 with the Wax fan controller non electric and I always do an inspect on hoses and found out the two hoses thet go to the Wax controller spool valve going to the upper part of the radiator the larger line was chaffing and like you in time it would of leaked and sprayed Hyd oil on the Exhaust piping and Muffler and yes there most likly would have been a fire! Friends please check you hoses for Chaffing. I rerouted mine and tyewrapped another hose over the chafe for safty. Ken 99 Allure 30356.

Thanks Ken,

I have never sued anyone before but I'm considering taking them to court over all of this. If I do I would think the regional office will figure it out. I specifically told them not to start any work until they got approval from the extended warranty company and myself when I took it to them. I feel like I've bent over backwards by paying them to put it all back together. The quoted me a price of about $5600 to put it all back together and ended up charging me $8300 with me suppling some of the parts they had on their quote, about $600 worth. Now they don't even want to look at it without me paying them to. I'm sure not all of Warren Cat is run in this manner or they would have went out of business a long time ago and would have never got as big as they are. I am a business owner myself and I can't amagine treating my customers like they have me. But at this point I don't want them touching my MH again. I would love to do it myself but I don't even have the time to use it much less work on it, but I will.
