Heated fuel filter

Yahoo Message Number: 79498
My 99 Magna had a heated fuel filter that went bad. The connector got so hot that it started smoking and melting the wire insulation. Was going to get the 1 year service done anyway, so I unplugged it and went on to Colton Truck Terminal. They said that they don't make that part any longer and said it was unnecessary and put a non heated one on. Is it really unnecessary? I do use the motorhome for ski trips and it does get pretty cold. If I do need one, any idea on a source? Thanks.

Hi Jim,

I still have that set up on my '01 Magna. I checked on the Racor website, and that heated bowl is still available. I would be more concerned as to why a circuit did not open before things melted. I change the R90P element and the gaskets and reuse the bowl and heater. It may be worth a call to Racor for their take and check your wiring diagrams to see what feeds that bowl.
