Hydro hot

I keep losing anti-freeze, and I cannot determine where it is leaking to. Can someone help me on this?

It's normal for some loss with the Hydrohot, and ypu will occasionally need to replenish. Can you determine how much and over what period of time you are losing the antifreeze?

What's probably happening is your losing the water part of the mixture. I know thats what happens with my Hydro hot. After a year I end up adding water only to the mix to keep the 50/50 ratio. Most of us have come to the realization the Green hoses CC used were permeable to water. As for the coach, I have had some issues. A lower hose clamp allowed a slight leak when the engine is first turned off, but while the engine was cold and not while the engine was running. Another time was the site glass on the over flow tank developed a leak. Another time it was the circulation pump in the engine compartment that sends hot water to the dash for heat. Then there was the pin hole leak in the small hoses that connect the top of the block with the over flow tank and the radiator that eventually burst and caused the engine to shut down. When the genset threw a magnet after 10 years all the hoses inside were replaced as they looked terrible and felt like mush.

It is not normal for coolant loss on a Hydrohot unit. If you are losing coolant you have a leak.

we had 2 leaks: on in the bathroom under the wood panel where all the wires go. A screw thru the hose.
the other leak was on top of the Hyrdo Hot unit where a clamp vibrated loose. The lip on the Hydro Hot unit captured the coolant so we didn't know it was leaking.
we also had to replace all our fuel lines to the generator when our generator stopped working, and all the hoses to our radiator when one of the hoses developed a leak. Cummins Coach Care did both replacements for a fair price.

Interesting to read this about the green hoses. For our three years of ownership, mostly with less then 6 weeks total usage per year (We plan to start making this 6 months per year, now that we retired:)!). We have had to 'top off' the overflow tank at the end of each trip.

Both myself, and now two other techs, have never found any evidence of leakage.

The green hose water escape, could explain our small amount, a few oz's, per trip.

Are there test strips that checks the mix? How do you know if you are at 50/50? I have topped off with the normal fluid each time I add, so probably have more mix the water now.

My Hydro Hot has used coolant for the last six years and none the gurus out there have been able to find a leak. I have learned to just live with it.

Leaks can be a pain to find, and if you're ok with adding coolant when needed then it will be fine. Me personally cant stand the smell of coolant inside the coach, I can smell it like a propane leak.
The hydronic heaters should not use any amount of coolant. If it is losing any amount the first is visually check every fitting and hose connection, while there check the hoses themselves. I like to have the unit running so if I see or feel water/coolant if it's hot/warm then I pretty much know it's coming from the heater. If after checking that and we haven't found something, then pull the burner and check inside the combustion exchanger, but make sure before pulling the head that it's up to temperature. I've seen these not leak while cold, but after heated up, leak from the expansion. Now if it's leaking from their (inside the combustion exchanger) Aqua hot will tell you replacement of the unit is your only option, and if you have an extended warranty that will pay the 10k + labor to R&R, great put a new one in. But for those that don't, the "box"? can be cut open & repaired. Typically when we open up the box we just make the repairs, but on some that had bigger issues we will replace the copper coils for domestic & pre-heat along with the webasto heat exchanger
