Power cutting off and on.

The power on my coach keeps cutting on and off with the surge protector making its normal loud bang. The Magnum energy monitor shows "Charging" for 10 to maybe 30 seconds and then switches back to "Inverting". I changed from the 250 to a 120 to see if the power source would make a difference and it did not. Any suggestions as to where to start looking?

I assume you are on shore power. I would begin with testing the power at the post.
The transfer switch could also be the culprit along with your power cord.
Test the cord with your multimeter after checking the power pedestal.
Turn off the Generator, unplug the shorepower, and open your transfer switch box. Check the connections inside the box to be sure they are tight. Also look to see if the contacts look burned.

After you make the basic first checks from Dean, then. I wonder what is causing the attempt to charge-fail. Do you have a battery problem? Check battery water level, battery connections. Could bad batteries cause the charge attempt fail leading to an unbalanced system tripping out? Think confirming battery conditions and fixing the fail to charge is a very important step.

I had a very similar situation this past summer - when I mentioned it to the park manager I was told my coach had to be having electrical connection issues --- spent a whole day at RV repair shop and was told the coach was perfect.
Found out there was faulty power coming from a transfer box a few blocks away from the park and my coach was very properly shutting itself off when inconsistent power was present...... so it wasnt the coach at all...... found that out the hard way after spending ALOT of money... jan

And the easy/cheap way to check this is, run of your generator for a couple of hours and see if they problem goes away.

Sounds like marginal shore power voltage. When the charger kicks on, in your coach, that is more amps drawn from the shore power. This may result in a voltage drop causing the surge guard to protect your RV from low voltage. Low voltage can be caused by other RVs drawing down the park's voltage, and your battery charging amps also then drawing down the voltage below the shut off value.
If you are connected with a 12 gauge 100' extension cord, that could certainly cause a voltage drop when the batteries start charging.

Monitor the voltage in the coach. Cutoff is 108V???
When the charger start, it probably ramps up the charge rate over about 30 seconds. Higher amps can cause the voltage drop on the 110V.

Gene, Ken here Im with Dean on this! All the years being on the road ALWAYS START AT THE PEDISTAL! From there follow Dean's Advice! I have a Pedistal surge voltage Progressive unit I bought at a SKP Rally, Love it. Im not a fan of hard wired supressors as I lost a ground to Neut. conn and the CC Supressors blew up and sprayed carbon inside our CB Panel box. Ken 99 Allure 30356

If the power at the pedestal is good, I would test the power cord reel next. I recently had to replaced my reel because of bad brushes . To check the reel; plug into the pedestal, power on to the coach, exercise the power cord reel, if the reel is bad the power to the coach will be intermittent. If power is not intermittent I would proceed with Deans' recommendations.
