fresh water overflow drains water tank

hi everyone

It happend once before. After we filled the freshwater tank in our 05 inspire and headed down the road i noticed a trail of water coming from the overflow line. It stoped leaving us a third of a tank. This seemed imposible to happen if the vent/overfowwas located at the top of the tank. Today while filling i wasnt paying atention and saw the overflow dumping and i shut of the water. I couldnt get it to stop. I ran the pump and switched the valves to diferent positons but it didnt stop untill 1/3 remained. I refilled being carefull not to lt it overflow. Have any of you had this happen?

It has started happening to me in my Inspire (although not as bad as yours - mine was only losing about 1/4 tank). Evidently there is a bleed valve that is sticking and allowing the overflow line to function as a siphon and drains the tank but I haven't taken the time to look for it. What I have started doing when I fill the tank is:

1. Turn off the water pump
2. Open a bathroom faucet
3. Turn the valve in the bay to the tank fill position
4. When the water starts coming out of the overflow, turn the fill valve back to the normal (non-fill) position.
5. Wait for the water to stop flowing out of the overflow line from the tank.
6. Close the bathroom faucet
7. Turn the water pump back on.

I have found that this allows me to fill the tank completely full without siphoning water out of it. It may be possible to turn on the outdoor shower in the water bay as an anti-siphon breaker, but I haven't tried it - I did not use it originally since the valve is located below the top of the water tank and I wanted to be sure to vent from a point above the top of the tank.

I'm guessing that you both do a lot of dry camping. I cannot remember putting more than a half tank of water (usually a quarter tank just for emergencies) in my tank.

Why carry all that extra weight?

I think it get into a siphoning stage until the water level gets down far enough to "break" it?

Yes, I have had it happen on my Beaver. If I start using water via the water pump it usually breaks the vacuum and it stops siphoning.
