Replacement Refrigerator Issues - Times Have Changed

Times have changed. Our last RV was our fifth RV, and the only one to burn, to be lost. With our extensive experience with RVs and that refer type, we also felt nothing likely would happen to our unit. So, citing numbers of installations over many years without a high percentage of failure as justification to live with one of these refers is no longer good enough.
And, it is thought that these failures actually have increased for units installed in the last 10-13 years.
What has changed regarding quality control in the last 10-12 years? Everything.

Hi Terry,

Had your coach been updated with the recall kit from Norcold? Walt

Terry I'm not sure but I think the new federal EPA environmental regulations have required design modifications that may not have been thoroughly tested or require reduced operating tolerances. Bob 06 intrigue 12047 all electric coach

I think the problem is the new owners that took over CC in 2000 tried to make more by selling less quality. Most RV appliances are very low duty cycles. They figure most RV's set most of there life and used 4 to 6 times a year. Now take an appliance designed for that uses and put in a lived in motorhome and the duty cycle goes out of site. The unit will fail because it was designed to not work very hard or very long to begin with. Take the same ref in a travel trailer of normal use and it would last the life time of the trailer.

Our 97 has a Dometic Elite. No recalls and no fires that I have heard of. Seems the fires are in the 2000 and above with the Norcold.
