The "update" done as a recall for our Norcold is nothing more than a temp sensor that shuts down the system, i.e. it kills the unit dead.
I don't grace this Mickey Mouse piece of ---- as an upgrade in any way. It is a recall to cover Norcold's rear end and make it hard for you to sue if you have a fire.
That said I have no intention other than to watch everything closely - as every day of use - for any signs of problems. The heating wires subject to shorting are readily apparent, ammonia is easily detected by smell, yellow deposits sure don't look normal.
I've been using ammonia absorption fridges in motor homes since 1975 and so far been vey lucky. If it fails (and we survive) I would consider the Amish changeover which is a real update/improvement solely because we dry camp frequently.

Bob, I am with you. And, folks also need to realize that not all those fires they've read/heard about where caused by ammonia absorption fridges.
Folks keep forgetting that refrigerator fires are but one of five causes of coach fires . . . don't assume removal of an ammonia absorption fridge has made you impervious to a fire - it can still happen.

As you state so well, one must be ever vigilant!
