Carefree Awning

Hey Guys,
This is not been the greatest of trips for minor problems with the coach, but another one came up.
My large awning has been working great, but yesterday I put it out, but it will not retract. I removed both end caps and the motor is turning and turning the gears at the motor. The part that enters the enters into the tube is turning going inside, but the other end is not turning. Has anyone taken that portion apart (motor side)? Is there a pin or any other gears inside the tube that may have broke? Is it something a novice can fix? I'm in a very small town in central Canada and no repair type of business's.
I'm trying to figure out how to secure the awning to the coach as I travel down the road.
Has anyone had a similar type of problem and had to secure your awning until it was fixed? If so, how did you do it?

There is no internet at the RV park, so I have to come into town to find some place that has wireless to use.
