Fluorescent Thin-Lite under cabinets

Yahoo Message Number: 5983
My wife does not like the surface mounted fluorescent lights under the overhead cabinets. "Too bright, too white - both color of the light output and white fixture". I have tried a "wood-grained" 1"x12" tape strip glued to the front edge of the light to eliminate some of the glare. One possibility she thought might work is the frame in the fixture with stained oak. She would also prefer gold/brass/copper over white enamel.

Help! Any suggestions?

An alternative solution: Some folks change to halogen lighting. It's reportedly more energy efficient (great for dry camping!) and provides better and more attractive lighting.

We have the same problem with our 2002 Allure - haven't figured out a really good "fix" yet. However, we noticed that the 2003 Allures had an extra strip of wood trim under the cabinet edges, which more or less caused the lights to seem recessed. We've thought about doing that, but just have not had time to deal with it. The light over the sink is the worst - the light glares in one's eyes.
