Leaking Front Door

Yahoo Message Number: 83310
It's been raining here in Traverse City on and off for the last month.
I've noticed that after a hard rain, when I open the front door that water collects on the bottom step. If I tilt the coach to the right, the water will run out. I level the coach when I back it into the driveway.
I've checked the rubber moldings and they seem to be pliable, not hard. I'm thinking that water is getting underneath the molding somewhere.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Thanks, John/Jackie 2003 Allure 30951

Yes. In my case it was the molding attachment strip that attaches the edge of the roof over the wall. The person who attached the strip had stripped out three or more screws allowing the roof to flex breaking the seal. The water entered through the seal to inside the wall behind the hi fi cabinet, down the edge of the door jam and collected on the bottom step. I had to drill a drain hole during a couple of thunder storms as the water would stand over an inch deep in less than an hour. Technically I was out of the two year warranty, but Doug Rutherford Director of Service got it fixed for me. They had to remove the inside panel to dry out the interior of the wall. They replaced the window and seals, the insulation, removed the black mold, installed new wall board, etc, etc. Took about 4 days as I remember. They also drilled a few drain holes in the edge. of wall outside the wipe seal of the adjacent slide. So along with the top of the slide rooms I check my roof caulking at least twice a year. AAt a seminar in Harrisburg this year CC staff said all caulking should be removed at replaced every three or four years! Yeah! RIGHT! TWI 2004 Intrigue. 11731

John,

I have the same problem. I think it has leaked since new (2007) and I have had it worked on for the last four years. Monday I go in for service again - PMCS, Tucson. I'll let you know if they find anything new this time.

Chris Snyder and Eric Olstrum when they worked for CC at Beaudry , took some of the stick on gutter and placed on top of the front door entry and placed another strip in front of the door hinge to stop wind noise, and it worked. The cupped side was installed facing toward the rear of the coach. It also prevented water from penetrating the door seal. In addition to the roof work mentioned previously, CC also reinstalled the threshold of the front door to drain away from the interior, when it had no slope before.
