New Mattress Time - what we did

Before THE FIRE and when full-timing, I had a Tempur-Pedic mattress in the motorhome. I love my Tempur-Pedic mattress. It is the "classic" and cost about $1,700 new in 2006. I purchased a new saw-toothed blade (very sharp) and "sawed" off the bottom four or five inches, pinned the inside cover seam back together and zipped up the outside cover, pinning it to fit around the new end of the mattress. I wrapped the cut-off portion in a sheet and placed that at the head of the bed so as to keep the two pieces of the mattress together, aging in the same environment.
Since I now had a house and was spending more time there than in the motorhome, and a couple of months before THE FIRE, I moved the Tempur-Pedic into the house (reinserting the cut-off piece and repairing the end seam of the inside cover)and replaced it with the most expensive short-queen innerspring (Eurotop?) mattress in a box that Camping World had (because of many good reviews). I put a thin gel topper on it and was pleasantly surprised at how comfy it was. Then, THE FIRE.
So, if you want a comfy bed, Princess recommends the flexible (and portable) Tempur-Pedic brand or the aforementioned Camping World mattress with or without a topper. She does not recommend using too-long mattresses with your closed slides and, although she also loves Stearns and Foster, they can be h-e-a-v-y.
Happy sleep time to all and to all a .... s/Terry Apple (2004 Allure 31001 refrigerator fire)

I cut ours off with an electric knife and have enjoyed it for 6 years.
