Which 2008 Magna Would You Choose?

Yahoo Message Number: 84564
Here's where my lack of RV experience really shows. I'm looking at two different 2008 Magna Rembrandts. They have identical layouts and share many common options, but:

Coach #1
Pluses

- VERY detailed maint. history that's beyond thorough - Many upgrades including interior LED lighting, Roadmaster/Roadking(?) shocks, Xenon lighting - Exterior is super good shape (see exception below) - No windows fogged at all

- All service records, books and more Minuses

- It's been trashed on the dealers lot (bedroom carpeting has to be replaced as does edges under both couches.
- One exterior crack at upper left PS salon window about 3" long - ATC light blinked the entire time we drove it - Rear roof awning wouldn't extend (seems to have wound in "too big" and1 now stuck) - Blinds and visor to left of driver's seat broken and held up with duck tape.
- Dealer idiots hit topper over DS salon and broke off rear cap, resulting in slide topper coming unfurled. Painted cover needs repair or replacement and painting to match.
- Broke interior panel in bathroom in half that covers slide control (how did they do that???) They do have both halves, clean break.
- No solar panels

Not Sure Plus or Minus
- Gas cooktop
- Cat C-15 engine

- Dealer owned (paid $300k to owner for trade in value) - Original batteries and tires, Tires look okay but 2006 dates on all.

Coach #2
Pluses

- Every imaginable upgrade (All Electric with A/C able to run off inverter, Vorad, Power slide basement trays, Outside TV, Basement TV, Silverleaf Weather station, power toll window, solar).
Minuses

- Its been stored outside, and it shows. Paint doesn't have any checking I could see, but clearly has a lot of scrapes/scratches.
- Windows at front, door and PS salon all fogged. Bathroom window heavily scratched from outside (same as paint area).
- Headlights are cloudy

- DS rear behind tag hit by bolder or rock (missing paint) but steel bent & rusting - When opening two compartments behind PS tag, both interior railing areas show moderate surface rust.
- Leveling system was clearly having issues. Would dump (endlessly), raise (endlessly) and go into travel mode, but wouldn't level.
- Tires in horrible shape, tag and steer very worn on edges.
- Original batteries

- Documentation and service history totally unknown.
Not Sure Plus or Minus
- Upgraded Cummins engine

- Coach is on consignment at dealer, but I think I've met actual owner and may be able to go direct ~ possible at a lower purchase price than coach #1.

So the questions I'm not sure how to evaluate
1) I know what tires and batteries cost, but are these other problems on both coaches big dollars or minor tweaks? Especially when I compare the "ATC" idiot light and carpet replacement on coach 1 vs. the leveling, paint and minor body issues on coach 2?
2) Is having a super well maintained coach worth a premium?
3) What's the best way to figure out if there are any other issues I didn't catch (Only spent an hour with each coach, so didn't go through every system, flush toilets, check TV systems, etc. Both coaches are within an hour or so of each other.

We plan on owning our next coach for a very long time.

Wow, unless you are in a great hurry, I would keep looking. Neither one sounds too good to me. How many miles, have they been full timed, pets, smokers, Cummins is good, mtce records are good.

Hello Mark,

I know what you are going through.
I like coach #2. Call Butch Williams 541-221-0654 or Kevin Waite 541-953-6162 (both Country Coach Master Techs) and see if they are available to do a PDI (Pre delivery Inspection). They can also give you an estimate of repairs so you will know what the ball park cost will be to get down the road. The cost for the PDI is well worth the investment, particularly when you consider what you are paying for the coach! That is what I did. If you would like more info, contact me off line.

Good questions!

Similar mileage (#1 = 20k, #2 = 28k) Price will probably be similar ($300k ~ 325k, though coach #2 may come in lower if I deal with the owner directly and cut out the dealer.

Coach 1's records don't match the condition you saw.

Too many good coaches exist, so I would keep looking.

PDI from pro's like the two mention. Is a good investment.

Best of luck in your search,

All I would add is that you should check with Premier in Junction City, OR - they were incredible with my purchase and how they made sure the coach was impeccable for me - great people....

I would expect that the dealer #2 has the consignment under contract, so it may be difficult to "cut" the dealer out without waiting for the termination of the contract. For what it's worth, I'd pass on both...there are a lot of Magnas for sale....

Coach #1 has always been garaged. Coach #2 has always been keep outside in S. CA. Neither has had pets, smokers, or full timers. Both are right about 20 ~ 28,000 miles.
I just got a "final offer" for coach #1 for $279k, but only safety items repaired. Everything else on us. They want to wholesale it otherwise and are saying they'll do it next week. Still strikes me as high and sort of a pressure play. But from a dealer, I'm not surprised. They've got a lot of capital tied up in it (paid owner $300k, so must have made $$$ on the new coach they sold him!).

Brian, The one for $285K was just what I was after, but it's found a new home (Sold!) in Huntington Beach (at an even lower price). I just visited it at it's new owner's place. Very nice.
The other is a Galileo model, whose desk floorplan doesn't work at all for us.

Thanks Brian!
