Anybody out there towing a Lexus RX300 AWD 4 wheels down? If so what year RX, what procedure do you follow and what modifications were made?

Thanks for your help.

I don't know if this'll help, but when the vehicle was first introduced, Toyota/Lexus said that it could be towed four-down as is, with a certain speed and/or distance restriction(s). After folks started having transmission problems, Toyota/Lexus changed their stance, saying that it would no longer approve such towing, 'cause they couldn't be sure that folks were sticking to the restriction(s). But, as a public relations matter, they extended the vehicles' warranty to 100K for *those* vehicles, only.
As for towing *your* Lexus, the best advice I can give is to consult Remco at http://www.remcotowing.com They know it all .

Gary: I have an RX300 base plate for sale. Cheap. I went through the entire RX 300 matter a couple of years ago and I believe the problem has been solved now. I bought a nearly new 1999 model RX, then went to Camping World and bought a Roadmaster bracket. I installed it myself and towed the RX from San Diego to Salt Lake City. Transmission went bye-bye!
Lexus replaced it under warranty and even offered to buy a pump for me if available. At that time Remco didn't make one. They now make one and you should be able to tow that wonderful little rig no problem.
If you don't already have a bracket, I'll sell this one for $75.00 if you pay shipping.

Gary--We have towed our 2000 RX300 for probably 5000 miles in the last 3 years with no problems. However, there have been some problems with some others. The question I always wonder about in those problem cases was whether the correct procedures were followed in preparing the RX300 for towing.

We tow a 2001 Highlander, which is the same engine/trans. 2001 is the only year Rx300 and Highlander were approved for towing by Toyota. We have gone 16,000 miles without a problem. We follow Toyota's recommendation and run the engine and shift through foreward gears every 200 miles, but that is all we do.
