Ride Height fuse

Gerald M. Green mentions the ride height fuse...:

I have checked thru notes that I have been saving but cannot find anything on pulling a ride height fuse so that I can drive home safely...Could you explain that more clearly. Is that the fuse located in the compartment in front of the passenger seat on my 2000 Allure? Thanks.

FWIW: I had an oil change yesterday in Nova Scotia and was allowed to descend into their pit to look over the bottom of my coach. I enjoyed that. The mechanic noticed that an exhaust pipe was loose...This was on the engine side of the muffler and the piece in question was welded on at two places. Whether this is typical or was done previously on my used 2000 model I do not know. Anyway, one welded side had separated and we added a large clamp to close it up. I had them put on a clamp on the good side to be safe. Thought I would mention it so others can check that out.

Remove screw covers and open panel in front of passenger seat.
Remove front cover on HWI control box mounted on front wall.
On the back of the cover is a circuit and fuseÊ diagram.
Remove fuse from TRAVEL positionÊ (Position # 12 on our 2000 Allure ).
This disables the automatic ride height adjustment Circuit.
Use manual leveling buttons rear right & left and front to adjust ride heig= ht. ( I tried

to set the height a little above half way on the air bags) With the "travel' circuit disabled,Ê the manual settings used to level the = Coach when

parked should hold while you drive.
You lose the automatic ride height adjustments for curves, bumps etc., but = I didn't

notice much difference in the ride for about 1,000 miles of driving onÊ I-6= 5 and I-75

from Florida to Michigan.

As a point of reference, suggest that you measure from the ground up the center of the wheel to the edge of the wheel well. Keep this number as a reference point to allow you to manually adjust ride height when you have to pull the #12 fuse.

At the Allure/Intrigue round table there were comments about the cost and time delay caused when a ride height valve went bad while on the road and not close to an authorized CC dealer.
It appears other dealers/truck shops do not necessarily have these units in stock and the cost to ship overnight and install gets quite high.
As a precaution I purchased a spare unit to carry in the coach. That way we will not incur shipping costs and less delay.
I look at it as a form of insurance. If I never get to use it I will be very satisfied!

Had the rear one blow on our '98 Intrigue. The originals were plastic.
Had all 3 replaced with the new version - metal & twice as big. Plastic is great for soda bottles. Good luck!

Our 2000 Magna had a rear quit working and would not hold air in the bag. After I replaced I dis-assembled and found the plastic pin that moves the valve when the lever moves was sheared. I replaced the other

side and kept it for a spare for the front. These were metal.

Now that makes some sense I will have it checked out just in case.I have had the problem looked at in many Caterpillar and even a Mack truck center.I is sure worth having another look perhaps by an independent as you suggest. All I need is to find that one mechanic who has hit on this problem before.
The only obstacle I have run into in the past is most shops are so busy they just don't want to work on a coach, as you know they are not as easy to work on as a cab forward truck. Thanks for the input.............Dan

I have replaced all three of mine. I also disassembled them and found the same little 1/16" plastic pin broken off. Pretty cheap stuff for 140 bucks!
Ride height valves are used on a variety of air suspension equipped vehicles and finding one in a heavy truck parts house is no problem. The last one I purchased appeared to be made of a composite material. Just make sure you install correctly. It is possible to install them 180 degrees off.

Herb Hughes at CC provide the following information for my '95 Intrigue 36 ft: "Front. Measure from the bottom of the frame to the top of the swing arm, at the front side of the air bag. The measurement should be 7 3/4 inches.
Rear. Measure from the bottom of the frame to the top of the rear axle housing. The measurement should be 4 3/4 inches

ygrps-yiv-1840922257 v0003a* {} So far all coaches with this problem seem to be after 2000. Mine is a 95 and I'ved lived with the bouncing of 28,000 lbs of weight.
Even the old car bounce some so with all this weight it will bounce or porpose. If the adjustment help so be it it not the shocks but spend your money as you wish.
Now for those of you adjusting the ride height do you move the rod up or down on the band. This is easily done.

I have a 2001 CC 42' Affinity, but do not have the ride height information. Also where do you measure the height? Will have it adjusted in Florida, if required, but would like to measure the height to determine whether it is out of adjustment.

There are two good files in the Files section of this group dealing with how to measure ride height AND the specs for your coach. Look about 3/4 of the way down the list under "Ride Height" (past the folders of files to the individual files).

Gotta thank this group. I finally had a ride height valve failure. On the way home from our last trip, all of a sudden the front just sat down hard, all the way. Thanks to this group, I knew just what to do. Popped off the panel, manually leveled the coach and pulled the 7.5 amp travel fuse. Ten minutes, max, and I was on my way again!

Went to check my ride height, manual gives the specs center-line of the wheel to the bottom of the frame tube. That caused several issues, not sure how to get the center-line of the wheel with all the "stuff" in the way. Not exactly sure where the bottom of the frame tube is. I've changed out ALL of the ride height valves (over the years) and took "easier" measurements to set the new ones (assuming the old ones were correct) Assuming I'm presently not too far off,I've taken the spec, 7.5" for the front and estimated where the wheel center-line is and nothing really makes sense. Seems like there are much better reference points and a picture would really help. Have a 98 Intrigue, any inputs??
