I currently have a 7 3/4 drop hitch on the RV. The CC seems to have a really high hitch mounting point and I need a good drop to make my car hauler ride level. What are you guys using that is working?

I used a 4" drop on my 98 Allure with my Saturn and Grand Marguis and Now use a 8" on my 2004 Intrigue. It worked equally well on my 04 Odessey and now my 21012 CR-v.

Thank you

With reference to the height issue, our new Roadmaster hitch is supposed to sit where the center of the pins on the car is within 5" of the center of the Coach receiver... otherwise accelerated wear can result, I was told. So Hitchpro in Eugene sold me a drop receiver - the male end goes into the coach... and provides a new 2" female end a couple inches lower which was all the correction I required for hitch up my Chevy Suburban. I keep both locked in place with locking fulton hitch pins which are long enough to drill and use a retainer clip as well as the very secure lock for double security.
As for towing the Tahoe, probably yours is a model which did not have the hi/lo 4wd option and that is why you are seeking a tow dolly. But as information for the group, many Tahoes and Suburbans right up thru the late models came with the hi/lo 4wd option as pictured on the dash here: http://www.wind-seeker.com/imgcc/2spd.jpg
This option was common on the LTZ models but also on other models and means that you can set the transfer case in neutral like a jeep and flat tow it with no issues. We did a lot of research before trading in our AWD Lincoln for the Chevy Suburban. With this option, the car is also designed so you can remove the ignition key afterwards and the steering wheel does not lock. And on later models like my 2009, it also disengages the odometer so towing mileage is not recorded, a major boon if you have a newer vehicle with a factory or extended warranty like ours. We realized of course that there are smaller lighter toads around, but we wanted something large and comfortable and with a big V-8 for towing our boats and so on... the Suburban was the perfect ticket.
Hitchpro in Eugene did a helluva job installing the Roadmaster with the the SMI Air Force One, a state of the art system, and used a trick flip down license plate holder on the front end of the Burb to hide the air and electrical connections behind the license plate. Very clean install and we are very pleased with the results. And my beefy Caterpillar C9 with 425 HP and 1350 ft-lbs of torque cruises down the highway scarely noticing the Burb is behind us (except in the turns heheh)

Nathan Re Tow Dolly Brakes---- most states have a limit at around 2000 Lbs- or there about. If you tow more weight than that Brakes are required on the Toad. So to answer your question, most good dolly's have brakes. I have been told that in California , State Troopers , while driving by, will also check if you have the safety clip , which applies the brakes if the Toad separates.

Correction on my previous post. Brakes would be required on the Tow Dolly, not the vehicle on the Tow Dolly

Unless I am missing something here you are referring to how much drop do you need to pull a trailer level. If that is the question measure from the ground to the top of the receiver hole on the coach when it is aired up and road ready. Then with the trailer disconnected put a level on the trailer tongue and level it. Then measure from the ground to the top of where the ball will seat. Subtract this measurement from the coach measurement and that is the approx. drop you will need. In my case pulling my cargo trailer requires a 12" drop and my boat trailer 6". Hope this helps.

Steve

I use a tow dollie - it doesn't have electric brakes but does have hydraulic surge brakes (will also lock up the brakes if the break-away cable is pulled).

You hit it on the head. that is exactly what I am asking. I have a 7 3/4 drop now but I know I need more. Where do you guys get good heavy duty hitches that drop lower than 8"?

Thanks!

Thanks all. Great info. Hopefully one of these will carry one that is Class 4. I will be towing pretty heavy and would like a good hitch.
