Slide out seals

Yahoo Message Number: 85055
We had some significant rain here in Austin and my seals are leaking around my slide outs. What is the procedure for seal replacement? Please tell me we do not have to remove the slide outs. Is it possible for me to replace them?

I have only a front slide but had my seals replaced at Texas Custom Coach in Pipe Creek, TX. They did not remove the slide. The awning cover arms were removed from the coach and the awning place on the roof while they worked on the seals. Make sure the number of turns to unwind the awning spring are written down to achieve the correct tension when replacing the awning.

The cost for the slide seal part of my bill was about $500.

Mark and Denise,

My procedure to replace main slide seals in my Resort was to take it to Butch Williams at Fountain RV in Lakeland, FL. His guys were very experienced and the cost was not as bad as I expected. I suggest that you have places near you that can do the job(like Motorhomes of Texas). I suspect that this is a job where experience makes it not too difficult but it looks like a challenge for the DIY guy.
I hope that this fixes your leaks as it didn't fix mine. I also had the side seams on the roof of the slide redone and that didn't help. Bedroom slid is dry. Galley slide is a sieve. I suspect the outer roof seam on the slide roof. I am going to eternabond that seam and see if that helps.

Good luck

Group,

A friend on this board pointed out to me that my message can be read as an criticism of Fountain RV and Butch and his team. That was not my intent. My intent was to describe how difficult slide leaks can be.
I have been to Fountain twice. It is 500 miles one way for me and I pass a lot of RV repair places on the way. I have been very happy with the work done by Fountain and the relationship I have with the crew.
The point I so poorly made in my original post is that finding and fixing leaks in slides is a very difficult process. Only the very lucky get the leak fixed on the first effort.

My apologies for the poor communication.

George, I'm the friend who sent you a private message about your slide leak repair at Fountain that you write about on the forum. I'm sorry to say my communication was poorly constructed and easily misinterpreted by you. Your comments about your failed slide leak repair at Fountain were in no way critical of Fountain. You simply stated the above fact.
My message was meant to say, "if your repair at Fountain was unsuccessful, you ought to let Butch know because I believe he would want to make it right." Most people know he does good work and has a good reputation, and my guess is he would want to know if a repair was not right so he could have an opportunity to make it right.

I have a similar vintage coach -- 03 Intrigue 11509.
I need a new seal under the bottom of the galley slideout. How tough is that one?
