110v indoor receptacle source

Yahoo Message Number: 85485
Hello All,

We need to replace a couple of our 110v indoor receptacles. Does anyone have a source for these outlets that do not have a mounting box?

Thanks
Marta

Depends on color, but you could try Northwest RV Supply in Eugene, OR. He does a lot of RV surplus parts.

Marta - The Homo Depot has metal junction boxes that can mount in a blind hole from the front. They use an interesting pinch system to secure the box. A template comes with the box. A small amount of enlarging of the OEM hole will be required but that isn't difficult.
With a proper box installed you can use a standard domestic duplex outlet and cover plate. Obviously you'll need enough wire to pull into the box. Here's a 20A outlet I installed: http://muniac.smugmug.com/Maintenance/Winter-Preps-Interior/i-4TnZRMH/0/M/img_2116-M.jpg IMHO the RV outlets are cheap plastic and would never fly in a house.
That said, some polymers offer improved flame-retardant properties through the use of additives. I'm not sure what the RV outlets are made from. If I has to guess, I'd say ABS. Taking the lead from specific domestic applications that have proven safe over many years doesn't hurt. Good luck.
