03 Intrigue batteries switching from wet and agm to all wet cells? y

Yahoo Message Number: 86016
Hello Just want some info, I have 3, 5 to 6 year old batteries in my 03 Intrigue. 1 wet cell chassis and 2 agm for the coach. Have not had the batteries checked out but thinking maybe its time to look at replacing. 95% of the time we are plugged into camp grounds very little dry camping. Did notice on my latest trip my generator is not starting just a few clicks. But coach is starting well and gauges say chg at 100%.
I called Les Schwab in Oregon and they have 8D wet cells for $227 installed and agms for $697 ea.
I am thinking for my use does it make sense to buy the agms?
Would you guess at 5 to 6 years old my batts are ready to be replaced?
Also at Les Schwab the guy mentioned he thought that the agms were set by my invertor to charge at a different rate so adjustments would probably have to be made, but he was not the expert and refered me to another person who was not in at the time.
For you folks who have mentioned earlier you switched did you make changes to the invertor? And have the wet cells worked out well? How long have they been in ?

thanks

Hello Jerry, Our 8D deep cycle wet cell bats. went in in November '07 and I just replaced them in December '12. Five full years no problem, just convenient to do while home before we hit the road.....Skip, 2002 Intrigue #11329

Make sure the 8D wet cells are deep cycle.
The clicking on gen start on mycoach is the fuel pump priming they fuel system which can take much longer in cold weather (30-60 secs) depending how cold it is. Hold the gen start button long enough to let it start when in cold weather. If battery is too low to start gen, i get a red fault light on my inverter panel and can see the voltage drop below 12 volts.

Jerry, you would be nuts to just replace the AGM's without a load test. Mine were installed in Jan '04 and are still fine and I do dry camp without any problems.
I also think you can get better pricing on the AGM's than what Schwab has quoted you.

Jerry, I agree with Don also. Get em load tested and watch the do the load test and explain it to you. You might have more life in the AGM batteries than you think. The wet cell might be getting to the end of their life though since they might be thinner plates in that battery. The AGM batteries will last a long time if you are not cycling them that a Often. Your generator starts of the wet cell, same as the main engine.
If you do not have any major gassing problems that are creating rust in your battery are then wet cell for your starter battery is fine and more cost effective. I like the AGM batteries because they are zero maintenance and my wife refuses to add water to the wet cells as needed. :)
