Entry Steps issue

Yahoo Message Number: 86097
Why am I plagued by intermittent problems? My entry steps suddenly stopped 6 inches out yesterday, opening and closing the door sorted it, then it did it again. Anyone have experience suggestions or comment? I am concerned something is about to fail?

Thanks

Mine recently did that, but only stuck out about and inch, enough to cause the "step out" light to stay on. I ended up lubricating all the tracks and pivot points with a dry lubricator that I use for my slides I believe you can purchase it at CW. If the motor feels too much resistance, it is designed to shut off.

The controller measures the motor stall current to shut off the step. If there is any binding on the step traversing in or out, the controller will shut down. Clean the slides and lubricate. You may need to give a push while going in or out to get over any rough spot.

We had the same problem a few years ago. Had to drive quite a few miles until we got to our destination, with the steps stuck in the out position. Tried everything else before figuring it out. It turned out to be the push switch near the bottom of the door. The material that pushes the switch in when the door is closed was compressed from use. I just added a 1/8 inch thick piece of plastic to the door frame that makes contact with the switch. It's been working as new ever since.

Larry & Jose,

Thank you. My first thought was the door harness, but my coach has just come out of the paintshop dealing with some cosmetic alloy corrosion, and whilst in I asked them to smart up the steps, which they did, I could not see any debris in the slides of the steps, but decided to clean them out with solvent and put in fresh grease. I use waterproof marine grease due to the drenching the mechanisim gets in wet conditions, I could not make the steps stick again so hopefully that was the issue.

Great group this!
