COACH CARE

There was a presentation on this subject at the reunion rally. The presenter made the following comments.

1. In the past, service centers were concentrating on trucks as this was their main meal ticket. RV owners took second place.

2. With the latest engine and running gear technology available on the new trucks the service intervals have been dramatically increased, leaving some service centers with open capacity and they are now turning their attention to the growing RV market.

3. To be an approved Coach Care service center the owners have to provide technicians, equipment and service bays that meet the full service needs of an RV owner.

4. Part of the delay in providing nation wide locations is caused by owners of premium locations that do not want to make the high dollar investment to change their existing buildings and equipment to make them RV friendly.

5. Even where owners are putting up the dollars, there is a time lapse in getting all required service people with the required technical knowledge in one place.

6. We may be looking at five to ten years before there is nation wide representation of Coach Care service centers.

IMHO they are moving in the right direction. It is correct that a certified service station will be handling all types of MH not just CC, but if you have trouble with your roof A/C who cares if the coach next to you is a Monaco, as long as the service center has trained technicians and reasonable prices that's OK by me.
It is my hope that each certified location will have at least one technician/service manager who is actually on the CC payroll and can be an effective factory liaison for CC owners who have problems that are out of the ordinary, and specific to Country Coach models.

David, didn't they also mention that the certification process was in 3 steps: level 1,2, and finally level 3? Some are now at 2, some at 3.

I was not at the reunion rally. Was reading the article in the CCI magazine with great interest and noticed I have a Coach Care facility here in Jacksonville, FL. How do we know from the list that they are at level 3 and have been trained specifically for work on Country Coach unique systems? Does being designated "Coach Care" facility mean they are at level 3 and have the Country Coach trained technicians?

Jim,

Take a look at their web site..... www.funroads.com .... It list (I think) the level. Better still... call Country Coach service. They will tell you.

"Expert repair of your chassis, main drive engine and Onan generator." Is all I see. It does not mention anything about any of the 'house' systems or anything unique to Country Coach and any specialized training. I have sent an email to Country Coach requesting info.

Thanks

Jim,

As you should hear from CC, the plan, as I understand it, is to have the "Level 3" Coach Care facilities be capable of repairing any component or system on a motorhome. It may not be promoted to the general public or publicized but CC is to train their techs on CC motorhomes, and CC owners should be given a priority in return. The Coach Care locations should also have direct access to CC techs and have decision making authority to handle warranty work. It's a great program plan and should give us (CC owners) broader coverage for repairs.
Call me naive, but I believe it and will make as much use of the Coach Care facilities as possible. In case you couldn't tell, I'm very much in favor of this program. It is a work in progress but I applaud it.

Thank you Bob Lee!

Dick,

I, like you, am hopeful that this will evolve into a program that results in increased opportunities for quality service for us all.
Having said that, my first inquiry at Cummins Bridgestone LLC has me scratching my head. They have multiple centers in the Michigan, Ohio and Indiana area, and If I remember correctly, the overhead that Cummins presented at the rally showed their facility in Novi, Mich. was level 2, and their facility in Grand Rapids, Mich was level 3. However, the service mgr at the Novi facility claimed he "knew nothing about different levels", but they "could fix anything" when I asked if they had anyone trained on the Hurricane heater, he said "probably one of his guys knew about it, if not, they could get someone on the phone". But, they could fix anything except slides and carpet. He said he did not think that they were authorized for Country Coach, and he said the brands they were authorized for were listed on the wall in the customer lounge.
There, along with Monaco and others, was a listing for Country Coach. Let's hope there is more here than an effort to con coach owners into stopping into Cummins. I don't want to pick up my coach after service and have them hand me a box of parts and have them tell me that they could not remember where they came from! (Like in the movie Doc Hollywood)
