Freedom 25 pulling too many amps

Yahoo Message Number: 87931
I just purchased a 2000 CC Affinity. 42 ft in South Alabama
Recently, I have been having an issue with the 50 amp circuit breaker on generator tripping out. Watching the readout panel in the RV (above the drivers seat, display has two amp readouts.) the left readout is at about 48 amps and right readout is about 14 amps. I turns all breakers in breaker box in bedroom off, resulting in 00.0 amps on both displays. Turning on breaker on and off at a time, I have found the big am draws are as follows: AC units pull about 14 amps each
Hot water heater pulls 10 amps

NOW THE KICKER:

There are 4 breakers labeled Freedom 25 on the right side. If you turn on any one breaker, nothing happens but when several of the breaker are turned on in the group of four, the amp display above the drivers seat climbs up to about 30 to 38 amps! I have 2 inverters (I think these are the freedom 25 units?) Is this a sign one or both are bad? I see if I turn the breakers off, everything still works. What function do these inverters do, other than supply 110V when going down the road?
PLEASE HELP!!! We are planning a lake trip next week, and would love to have everything working.

Thanks for ANY help in advance!

The inverters are also battery chargers. On my 2000 Magna, I have only one 2500 watt inverter but it is supplied 110 volts through two 30 amp circuit breakers in the breaker box in the bedroom. If my house batteries are low, the charger portion of the inverter will put out about 110 amps to my batteries. This converts to about 10 amps on a 110 volt circuit. So if your house batteries are discharged a significant amount of current you could be seeing could be the charger amps as part of the total amperage used on the circuits.
The outlets that are supplied power by the inverter when on 12 volt power are also supplied power through the inverter when you are plugged in to shore power or operating off the generator. A transfer switch in the inverter will switch to the appropriate power source; use the inverter power from the house batteries or if plugged in to shore power or running he generator, the switch supplies the power from those sources through the breaker box.
You should have a fairly large binder with circuit diagrams that will tell you what the inverters are powering. In my case it is all of the 110 volt receptacles and the microwave (which is plugged into a 110 volt receptacle).
I've divulged all the knowledge I have on this subject so I hope someone else will jump in and help you find out what is using all your power. You really need to know this so you can optimize the use of your batteries when you are off the grid and running completely on battery power.

Like Pete, I just have 1 Freedom 25 so I'm not sure exactly how your coach is wired compared to mine. Also like Pete said, it could be the chargers initially charging the batteries. I assume with 2 Freedoms, that also means 2 chargers running at the same time which could add up to a lot of amps. The chargers are not close to 100% efficient, so I would not be surprised to see 30+ amps AC for both the chargers. Also, it could be something you have plugged in to an AC outlet. Try turning the breakers off for the outlets and the microwave and then turn on the breakers from the Freedoms. The freedoms in theory would only be charging the batteries. You could also try the opposite (breakers on for outlets and microwave, chargers off) and see what happens. On my coach, the breakers for the outlets/microwave are located in the first bay on the passengers side.

Before you start over analyzing the situation I'd like to suggest you have the batteries checked. As old as the coach is and if the coach has been in dry storage for a long period of time you just might have a set of batteries that can't be charged or won't hold a charge.

So, I have looked at the batteries in this rig, they are not the #27 size that my old coach had! I do not even know if I can lift them out! Anyway, where do you take something like this to have tested? Does anyone know what the official size is of these? Where do you buy them? Has anyone found a good priced supply? Thanks!

They are 8-D batteries. Are they AGM batteries? If not, you can check acid level. If you disconnect the batteries you can check for voltage on each. That will tell you if they are dead. They are heavy! You can buy inexpensive 8-Ds at Sam's Club. I bought my AGM house batteries at Batteries Plus, but most battery places can order them. You might find a good price on line.

you can limit the rate of charge to your batteries at your remote. I'm. guessing you have a total electric affinity (no propane) which doubles your batteries to charge. Set your remote like your hooked up to a 30 amp or less service and see if that lowers your amp draw.

If you tell us where you are located we may be able to direct you to a source to buy the batteries at a good price.

They are probably 8D's and most any Battery shop, Interstate or other can test them for you.

I know a great source in Los Angeles and another in Ohio.
I am no help in Alabama.

You may find replacements at SAMs or Costco.
Some folks replace the 8Ds with multiple golf cart 6 volt batteries.

PROBLEM FIXED!!!

Batteries were between 2 and 3 liters each low on water. Filled them up an all is well. Pulling about 2 amps on each side and the LED indicated it is on "float" Thanks for all the help!
