Rear ac R134

I have a 1998 affinity with rear ac. The front dash ac works but my rear will not get cold. The rear blower runs, but not cold. I question two components back there next to the evaporator. The thermostat & the 12 volt solenoid. I don't know if the solenoid is letting the freon into the evaporator or how the thermostat works with the solenoid. The solenoid is pretty hot to the touch, I don't know if that is normal. Any help would be appreciated. If someone can tell me how to check each part so I know which one to replace, any past experiences or tech advice please, thanks. John
