LOW "DC" voltage..??

Yahoo Message Number: 6482
Ive been plugged into 120 24/7 for 8 days now. Batteries WERE up top notch. All 12V lights burn dimly now..?? and indicator lights say LOW batteries? Any idea why?

If I direct charge the batteries at a campground tomorrow and sat...do I need to disconnect the cables...and if I do that...will I have 12V inside the coach for this weekend??

All help greatly appreciated.

Batteries can show they are charged and have no capacity (sulfation).
Also, corroded terminals can cause this problem. As long as the charger is providing the power everything is fine. When you disconnect shore power, everything is dim. Make sure the batteries are tested under load and the terminals are clean. jerry in NM, '00 Magna.

Sully: I had the same problem. Inverter not charging even though the 110 was plugged. Try starting the engine and see if the engine alternator charges things. Also. push/tap on the end of the inverter. If like my original inverter, the circuit boards get a little rust on them and stop working. I had to do it several times, finally upgraded to a newer inverter with better connections/design.

Sully,

In addition ot the prior comments, there is also a group of coaches that had the problems you describe. These problems were caused by the "Invertrix" brand inverter. CC replaced most of these inverters with the Trace inverter.

Larry: Not sure of the root cause of my problem YET! Indipendantly charging the 8D's with a NEW...*S*....HD charger ( dont ask where my old charger is??...lol)

C Coach gave me a "try this" rundown on the phone today....batteries checked at 25% with a Hydrometer ( which I also bought...*S*) After 3 hrs of charging they check at 50% presently. I will charge #1 to full and then start on battery #2.

My charger / inverter is SUPPOSE TO BE a "Heart 2500" with the float charge feature (which evidently sunk...get it...float...sunk...oh never mind..lol) and with the "idiot panel" interface you cant see whats what and you have to assume the inverter is doing its job.
Which up to now...it has done its job.

I can see the "Link 1000" monitor in my future right quick. I want some sort of actual "contol" over whats happening so that I dont get caught short again.

Oh....BTW. Running the engine seems to bring things up to full voltage in about 20 minutes....but it falls back down to about 25% charge overnight.

For whats is worth....I noticed on a recent vacation out west...running the genset didnt seem to build the batteries back up...BUT running the engine (The coach traveling) brought them back up to 12.9 volts in about 4 hours.
