Feat accompli Lone Pine to Pahrump

We left Lone Pine, CA at 9:30 AM and arrived at Pahrump around 1:30 PM. It was a magnificent journey through geologic time. The views were simply staggering in their vastness and beauty. Here are some numbers for those who may consider the trip: 181 miles

grades ranged up to 10% both up and down coolant temp high 213 briefly
tranny high temp 209
tire max temp 147
death valley temp 104

gear selection mostly 3 or 4 but occasional 2nd both up and down estimated mpg 8.0
max tire temp 147
lowest speed 20

highest speed 57 although some points were posted as 65 My advice: We do a lot of mountain driving so this trip, although challenging, was not one that I would avoid in the future. For those not comfortable with steep grades and sharp curves--don't do it. For those who exercise good Jake brake usage and speed/gear control--go for it! Lyle Wetherholt
