Automation

To those of you who have done the factory tour...does CC use any significant amount of robots or assembly line automation? Most pix I see of factories...CC and others show a "hands on" process. Had never thought about the car assembly line process for RV's but just read that Blue Bird is cutting 750 jobs in Goergia (school buses, comm. buses and Wanderlodge motor coaches) due to $12 million investment to modernize two assembly plants. "Both facitilies are being refitted with new assembly lines". If 750 people are losing their jobs...sounds like automation to me. Two small towns will feel the impact....450 in Fort Valley and 300 by April in Lafayette.

jcronin,

Took the factory tour in June. The Allure & up lines at that time were still being built as one unit at a time. No resemblence of an assembly line. On the otherhand I was told by my guide that the Inspire was being produced on an assembly line that was designed by a person that CC hired away from Toyota. She indicated the success of the assembly line approach was being looked at closely. I saw nothing associated with the Inspire's production. Not sure where it is built. If in the JC facility it must be away from the buildings that house the Allure's & up. There was one Inspire in the delivery lot that I was able to inspect.

While all of the Country Coach products are built in assembly line fashion (think of the model T assembly line), there is very little automation with regards to robots. An RV assembly line is nothing at all like the assembly line of a car.
There are numerous 'stations' where different parts of the vehicle are installed in a logical progressive order. CC uses a lot of man power to accomplish this.
