Manual slide closure, anyone actually done it?

Yahoo Message Number: 89616
I'm always thinking about 'what if.' My previous coach had two slides and came with a boat trailer winch to winch in the big slide if necessary. The smaller slide was to be pushed in from the outside.
I'm thinking if I ever got caught with a dead HWH pump motor, the process would be to open the solenoid release valves and hope you could push (with some help) the three HWH slides in. If the Power Gear flat floor slide motor died, how would you get that one in?

I am more than curious to know the answer to these questions:

1. Why did CC mix three HWH hydraulic slides with one Power Gear slide?
2. Has anyone ever had to manually retract the sides or is the plan to just call CoachNet and hope they can send help?

I have had the experience where the power slide would not retract and there is a procedure in the owners guide for manual retraction, I could not do it. Turned out to be a blown 25 amp buss fuse.

Z-Man,

Curious as to what was the cause of your stuck slides on 2 occasions?

Dan, if you attached a pic to the message, I cannot see it.

Is it a ratchet strap?

Hello Gary. The prior owner to our Affinity had a failure, it was caused by solenoid valve having trash in it. He replaced the valve rather than cleaning it out. Had to use the ratchet to pull unit in and kept the ratchet attached until he returned home.
Bleed off valve, ratchet in slide, close valve is the procedure.

Been on the road from the grand CCI Cody Rally, so slow to respond.

Both my failures were caused by Sync Cylinder failures. This unit in my coach is located behind the curb tag wheel on the back of the wheel well wall, with a steel plate to protect it. A hose/end would separate, all ATF run out . . .system inoperative.

HWH said heat build-up and poor CC engineering were the culprit. CC said it was poor HWH hose construction. This was 2008, a memorable year.
Extended Warranty said . . . . too bad, talk to HWH and CC. Ho, ho, ho.

New hose ends and a zillion holes in the plate . . . trouble free since then.

I've also successfully and manually cranked in all my slides, but that's another story.

Come to our CCI Branson Rally in a couple of months and I'll demonstrate!!!
