AC condensate drips on bed (was A/C drains)

Yahoo Message Number: 89763
I have the same problem with condensate from the rear air conditioner dripping on the bed. In addition, last week the front air conditioner started to drip condensate on the floor. The front had never had that problem until then.

I changed the title of this post to see if anyone else has had this problem and has some solution.

I intend to take the coach in to my local shop in the next couple weeks and want to give them some hints on what it could be.

We had this problem when we first bought or used coach in 2004. The dealer replaced the cracked drip pans on both ACs. Dometic admitted they had a bad production run back in that timeframe.

I have a 2004 inspire with this same problem. A/C leaking onto the bed at the rear of coach. How hard are these drip pans to get to for replacement? thanks

Larry,

I've had my front A/C apart and don't recall it to be horrific.
The guts include sheet metal panels of various shapes and sizes screwed together to form baffles and chambers. Some aluminum tape is also used to seal joints. You should be able to disassemble these to expose the evaporator and condensate pan. Ours has a condensate pump which is easy to see. The tubing connection may be exposed and easy to get to. When you delve in it's a good idea to check everything for leaks. Pour water into the condensate pan and see if it drains where it should. In other words, use some common sense diagnostics. All of this assumes it's a condensate leak and not something else relating to rainwater caulking.
Check for rusted joints and/or holes. Good luck.

A temporary work-around for us was to roll up a micro-fiber towels and place them in the ac frame-rail accessible through the filter panel inside the coach. They had to be replaced everyday with dry towels but it kept the condensation conatained and off the bed/carpet.

If the humidity is very high, you should run the A/C fan on high. This helps reduce the ice build up. It has on occasion iced up in one or two of my three A/Cs. And then leak inside. VERY RARE BUT IT HAS HAPPENED.

When running your rear A/C unit. Turn your FAN on Low or High. Do not use AUTO. In the confined area of the bedroom your A/C unit cycles more then it should and moisture will drip from inside the A/C unit. Your water on the bed may not be from outside.

I have also had this problem with drips on the bed when I dug into the problem this is what I found and how I fixed it. The AC's on our coach are Coleman's with the little pump to remove the water.

1-Remove the outer cover.
2-On the left side or drivers side of the unit you will see a sheet metal box with wires running into and out of it. Remove the screws and move it out of the way. Be careful the capacitors are under here.
3-Now you will see and can get at the motor/pump assembly, remove the screws for this and move out of the way. The drip pan will now be exposed. Inside the drip pan you will find a very course sponge. Remove this and clean it. Mine was blocked with dust and dirt and would not allow the water to get to the pump. Note: there are drain holes in the pan so if the pump fails the water will run onto the roof of the coach and not overflow the pan.
4-Clean out the drip pan and run some vinegar down the drain hose.
5-Reassemble in reverse order.

I hope his will solve your drips.
