Lost 5 Gal Coolant

Just to up date folks. We lost 5 gallons of coolant over time. My fault for not catching sooner. Seems our Heat Pump booster failed just as we started to leave the house. Coolant was dripping down the drive way as we backed out. After road service call, we determined the Heat Booster pump was leaking. Today we replaced the pump and I started engine to check for leaks. Engine ran 2 minutes and shut down. 5 gallons later the system seems stable. The pump started running as soon as ignition key was turned which indicates the pump run more than we expected. Wonder if turning off the Heat Transfer switch if OFF will control the use of the Heat Booster pump.

Any help is appreciated.

At the recommendation of Chris Snyder and confirmed by the folks at OMC when my rear pump failed

while on the road the pump was disconnected electrically and was bypassed using only the front pump.

After 4 years all is still OK, plenty of heat up front when needed. TWI 2004 intrigue 11731

I disconnected and removed that school bus pump in 2005. It had failed twice before parking me along route 94 in Montana on a quick dash from Minnesota to Sacramento.
We still have heat from the dash heater and no further problems since then.

Thanks for the reply and sharing. Not sure why this pump runs off ignition either. That means it run all the time the ignition is on.

Seems like this pump would be critical for hot water while on the road. Heat up front would require turning on furnace to get circulation. This pump would circulate engine coolant for heating driver / passenger area. Fan motor and thermostat controled on left side of driver not using Hydronic Heat.
Our 01' Intrigue operates like this, please correct . " The heater booster pump is wired to Ignition fuse panel and comes on when key is turn, means there is not another control switch."

I have the fuse to both the front and rear school bus pumps disconnected. I get plenty of engine heat regardless. Just the engine water pump circulates enough, at least in this coach. The Hurricane has its own pumps.

How about hot water? The booster pump also heats my hot water too. This pump also warms the engine for cold morning starts on the road where the block heater is not possible. I figure that is why CC put the pump on the ignition side and not the dash heater. I did contact CC and confirmed with them. I also suggested adding a service notice for this coach option. Just like oil filter and other service items that need service at 1, 000 engine hours or replace at 10 years which ever comes first.


I also wish there was a way to determine when fuses blow. The pump would not work and you would not know until one cold am. Air Pump is the same way, you would not be able to re-level as needed without starting the engine.

On my old rig, there are/were two booster pumps that run off the ignition switch. One near the engine and one behind the front bumper.
I removed the rear pump in 2006. The front pump still runs all the time. We still get hot water after driving and enough heat from the dash heater in our traveling climates.
