generator problems

I have a 2006 Intrigue. My gen. set decided to give me grief so this my help others. It ran funny, It stopped now and then. When I brought it in we found the fuel line crimped and the lift pump bad due to this. Just another bad deal because of poor workmanship on country coaches part. Something that was brought to my attention by the people at Onion. The circuit to the gen. set is hot all the time even when both the batt. switch and the chassis switch is off. Butch Williams says it should be that way. He knows more about county coaches than anyone when it come to the electric side. Ok...who is right?

Russ,

This is probably right. In high current loads, it never pays to go through too many switches. The standard method for hooking up an engine starter is to run the positive straight from the positive battery terminal. The battery switches will disconnect the key and other relays so they will prevent the engine or genny form starting when the batteries are off anyway.

Nothing wrong with this method...it is generally the standard.

Same in 05 Inspire.

Thanks. The other thing that happens is if the gen. set is running and I turn the batt. sw. on, the gen set shuts down. The folks that worked on it said that when all switches are off, there should be no power to the gen. set. I asked Butch Williams about this and he said the gen.set should have power. To many systems in these things. I think I am going to go smaller.
