Buyer Beware - Radiator Supply House, Sweethome OR

Almost 12 months ago I bit the bullet and bought a steel and copper radiator to replace my leaking aluminum radiator from Radiator Supply House. They are a major supplier of these units to the RV industry and make them for just about anything that needs cooling. The unit cost me about $4,000 plus the $2,000 in labor to R&R.

Several months ago a leak appeared. It wasn't a major leak so I kept an eye on it until we could get it into the shop. I was expecting to learn it was a lose hose but it is the neoprene gasket on one of the radiator tanks. The repair involves removing the radiator again, replacing the gasket, and then re-installing the radiator. The labor cost will be about $2,100.

I spoke with the Radiator Supply House and asked for some help with the labor expense. If they hadn't made the mistake in the construction of the radiator there would not have been a problem. They said no. They are willing to replace the gasket but that is the extent of their assistance. I would have been willing to accept even a token gesture but their reply is fixing the radiator is going way beyond what they think is reasonable.

I was foolish enough to buy this unit without a written warranty. I believed the claims from the shop that they made a solid product. My suggestion is when you buy your radiator, look elsewhere.

You might want to have Southern Oregon Diesel in Roseburg quote on the radiator removal and replacement. They charged me about $1,000 in 2008 for labor and coolant plus the $4,000 for the new radiator.
