Door Catch

Yahoo Message Number: 92602
I have read on this group and others that the way to stop squeaking of the door when traveling is to wrap some tape around the pin which I do but does not last long. I have added a picture of the pin. This pin is screwed into the post.
Has anyone removed this pin? Is there a captive nut or is the post tapped? I want to remove my pin but do not want to find I cannot get it back without exposing behind the door post to grab a nut or whatever.
Then I have an idea to get an engineering shop to make a new one with a hex base to get a wrench on, and make the pin a slightly smaller diameter so I can get a plastic sleeve on it and have a more long lasting noise eliminator! How does the idea sound

you can pull the strike pin off, put a wrench on the end (it's a standard size) the nut on the back is a sliding captive nut - or at least it should be...
But, before you go and re-engineer this part check all & align the door. My thought is something isn't correct & not saying what your thinking wont work, but if it was something common Trimark would already build it.

Hi Jim, I take your point but... all over the place you see reference to tape around the pin to stop squeaking. I have adjusted the pin position to ensure the door is as tight as I dare but still without tape it squeaks??

I had my door adjusted while at OMC primarily because of wind noise and squeaking. The door opens like new and the wind noise is gone. The squeaking turned out to be the screen door.
