Headlight Replacement - HID kits?

Yahoo Message Number: 93640
I've a 98 Country Coach Intrigue; I've cleaned the lenses so they're crystal clear but the visibility at night is still quite poor. I've put the brightest replacement bulbs available without actually replacing them with HID.

Now I'm considering an HID upgrade, the labeling on my current bulb is "HB1/9004 DOT 12V"

Has anyone performed this upgrade and can you provide any insight to the installation (I'm a DIY owner) and results... especially improved vision at night?

Finally, what color did you select... Yellow, Blue, or something else

Carl: What did you use to clean the lenses. I have tried several things that didn't work. Thank you, Barrie Boas 94 Concept 5111

I did install a HID kit on my tow car, a 2008 Saturn Vue, which greatly improved the lighting. My 2008 magna lighting is also poor even though I installed silver Sylvania bulbs. If I drove more at night, I would also install the HID kit. I used the bright white bulbs which I think were the 4600 kelvin bulbs.

I have replaced my headlights with hid on a 99 Allure The headlights are the same assembly as the 98 (89 ford bronco) I purchased my Hid kit from e bay for less than 50.00 . The important thing is to get a kit with the movable bulb. this is so you can retain high/low beam operation as there is only one dual element bulb in our headlamps and the plasma doesn't allow for a dual. A solenoid base electrically repositions the bulb for the high/low function. The temperature I purchased is 600k. It is white without any blue tinge. I found the head lights must be reaimed and without projector a assembly you will not get a sharp cut off on the light like the newer cars. Overall my night vision improved to acceptable with less current draw and more usable light. I live in Alaska and use my coach year round so our 16hr+ nights take a toll on lighting. I also run a 2400watt light bar that is used when there is no traffic on our winter roads to avoid moose collisions. Note that the HID bulbs take about 30 sec to fully illuminate so you loose the ability to flash someone with lights during the day.. Some states have restrictions on retrofitting of hid into non projector nacelles..Overall I am now pleased with my coach headlights.

I have the 5000K bulbs in my BMW car which are a nice white towards blue. Not real blue just a slight tint, it is the closest to sunlight you will get. Make sure your lights are aimed, my Dolphin were aimed at a tree top and the curb, pretty much useless and brighter bulbs would not help until they were aligned.

Barrie, I used the 3M 39045 Headlight Restoration Kit to clean up/polish my headlight lenses. I thought it worked very well. Costs about $23 from Amazon.
It is a five step process and requires the power of a 1200-6000 rpm drill to do the sanding and buffing. My lenses were yellowed, badly pitted, and resembled sandpaper. A couple hours later, they were crystal clear. Two years later and they are still crystal clear.
They are the original headlights and still worthless for night driving - but at least they're more attractive during daylight hours.
