IFS alignment

I am in need of a good alignment shop in either Tucson or the Phoenix area. Apparantly I have a toe in problem. (on the coach, not my feet) Our shop here in Las Cruces did not have the Dynomax data in their computer system but I can be in either Tucson or Phoenix next week on our way to Wickenburg.

any shop can set toe in ... It should be 1/8 inch. You can even do it yourself with a tape measure.

Yes and no. Ideally when using a tape measure one would want to measure from the center of the tire to the center of the opposite tire. The IFS structure will not allow a straight, unobstructed line between the tires on the backside. I don't know how to get around that issue.

Hello Lyle,

You might want to give purcell's tire located at 2310 west McDowell road in Phoenix a try. Their phone number is 602-252-3500. I have used them several times to set my alignment, once they even checked it and said it was fine with no charge to me.

Jock,

I did call Premier as I have heard good things about them. They gave me two recommendations, neither of which do alignments these days.
Someone else recommended B&C Marrine &RV. I talked to them but was not impressed since all of my questions had to be asked of a third party and then relayed to me. Whomever was answering the questions never came to the phone and the guy on the phone had no answers but rather had to ask this third person.
So, I am still looking.

About three years ago, I had new Hankook truck tires installed on my 40' motorhome at GCR Tires of Tucson. GCR did the realignment and balancing. I was satisfied with their services at the time. Ph. 520-888-6001

For maintenance and service we like W.W. Williams in Tucson, but have never had a wheel alignment done there.

When there was Beaudry, there was Frank. He was superb on alignments. Perhaps He went to work at Lazy Days. Call there, ask if Frank is there.

If you cannot get to the tire due to obstructions you can use a board with 2 legs nailed to the ends using that as a reference and measure from there. I have a toe gauge, which is a fancy version of this. But a board, pipe, etc will work . Or you can use a tape measure and a plumb bob.

Use a straight-edge and a level to measure from the forward center of one tire to the same on the other front tire. Compare the measurements to the back side to verify that you are getting what you need. Been doing this for years (with FAA Approval) for alignment of aircraft tires.

Measuring "closer to the ground", cannot possibly provide one with the accuracy needed to accomplish the proper toe-in alignment. To do so would be akin to attempting to measure a persons height by marking it on a sidewalk as they ran by.

Then you measure between the tires front and back and the difference is your toe setting. Sometimes done using a string instead of trying to measure directly.

Yep, you are correct, but it was mentioned that because of the understructure, it isn't possible to align a tape measure from the forward center and rear center of the tires tread. To get around this issue, you place a framing square or level, flat with the earth, and extending upwards to align with the center of the tire, and measure between the tires this way. There is more than one way to kill a cat! Same goes for the back side of the tire, and then you can compare the two measurements to obtain the current toe-in, or toe-out. Then, as mentioned prior, make the needed adjustments.
