inverter/charger

We have a '94 Affinity. We have ruined two sets of coach batteries. The last set, Interstate gel batteries only lasted one year and one month. (No warrantee on them. Will never buy another Interstate battery) Since the coach is plugged in all the time, we feel it was the inverter/charger. Could anybody recommend a good brand 2000 watt is sufficient for our needs. Any input would be appreciated.

Bud,

I think before I would just replace the inverter/charger I would check to see what the float voltage is from the charger. If the float voltage output to the batteries is higher than about 13.4 VDC I would be concerned. Otherwise I would look for a different problem.

I didn't pay close enough attention to the first set of 4 Trojan batteries in my coach, and had some problems. I have owned my coach for 11 years and am about 5 years into my 2nd set deep cycle 6volt wet cell batteries. Someone needs to keep a close eye on batteries to get good life, usually 5-8 Yeats. When I am parked for an extended period of time, I don't like to leave the charger on then constantly. You can find good information on care of RV batteries on the internet.

Other one is you stated the last batteries were gel, did you set the inverter/charger for gel batteries? If not that very well may be your issue as gel's use a different charging profile.

Gel batteries are charged at a lower Voltage and the regulator set accordingly or they will over cook.

For the house bank I use Trojan 105 6volt battery's.
4 will fit on my slide out tray = 440 amps.
I have used the golf cart batteries with the best longevity in my boat and rv for 20 years.
Just my tested opinion
