Norgren Pressure Regulator Service Bay driver's side - HWH??

What purpose does the Norgren Pressure Regulator serve adjacent to the Thomas compressor in the service bay driver's side? When we shut off the regulator the coach levels more quickly. Can we leave it closed off or remove it?? Lonny & Diane Livingston
