Odor problem

Yahoo Message Number: 6955
We have an obnoxious odor coming from the washer/dryer cabinet and from the outside compartment where the hurricane heater is. This odor, present from purchase, seems to be evident in all of the basement compartments. CC said they did not have time to repair the problem when we were at the factory and sent us home to have it repaired in Southern CA. Now they have problems explaining repair to the local facility. We are perplexed at the attitude and lack of response we have/are receiving from CC.
Has anyone had this type of problem ? Any advice about getting rid of this odor problem? Thanks

Stan & Nila,

I have been waiting forever for someone else to list this problem. I was afraid to post it for fear of everyone thinking had lost my mind. After looking for a month to find a sewer leak I finally noticed that my Suburban had some of the same odor. It is coming from the Toyo tires. The warmer they get, the worse they are. However, after being parked inside for a month, the entire building where the coach is stored still smells like sewer. Nose applied to the tires should give you the answer if this is your problem. My solution? No more Toyos. Not on the coach, Suburban, or any of our trucks. In fact, if anyone wants a bargain on my 12x22.5 tires with 3000 miles, let me know. They are going to be replaced soon. Not just because the stink, but also due to the poor handling.

Yes, Stan and Nila. We had a tremendous problem with odor. Is your odor sort of like a sickingly sweet smell? If it is, I have an idea what's going on. Note, our coach is 11419 - not far off from yours.

Let me know.

If just the dryer were the problem I would suggest cycling the unit as you may lack water in the traps allowing odors to enter your unit. I do not have the Hurricane heater and I do not know how that functions but perhaps if you can get water into the traps that might help. Mike 2000 Allure 30493

Where are you located Doug? I will need to replace my tires soon and would be quite interested in your Toyos size 12R22.5. Mike 2000 Allure 30493

If your washer dryer was installed at the factory, your coach should have a p-trap at the washer discharge. If it was installed as an after market by some dealer, then it's a coin toss whether it was properly installed. If it was installed, it still needs to be used or at least run through a rinse cycle periodically to keep the trap filled. If the trap dries out over time due to normal evaporation, guess what? you're gonna have a stinky coach especially when you open the ceiling vent and turn on the fan. By the way--- my Toyo tires don't stink. If a p-trap goes dry and a coach is left closed up in a storage garage, everything you put your nose up against is gonna stink including the tires.

There is no way Toyo tires smell like sewer! I have Toyos on my Toyota and my CC. What are you driving thru??? Just think what a parking lot (with tires on hundreds or thousands of cars) or a parking garage, car lot etc....if the rubber on the tires smelled like sewer, the world would be one big cesspool! You need to look for a real source. Dale

The sick sweet smell is coolant in the lines from the Hurricane, it leaches out of the hose, as it gets hot, but no liquid leaks. Where the heat exchangers are will be the strongest odor.I have talked to Buddy Gregg about this and they are trying to find a different hose.I will post the results.

I agree with you Dale. Ive got 25K miles on my Toyo's and not a single smell from them....lol AND I'll add GREAT tire wear so far...and to boot mighty good handeling. Im so happy with their all around wear and performance my next set will definately be Toyo's.
As far as smell goes...I dont have a WD ( and dont want one) BUT...I have "slopped" the water out of sink traps before and I dont know anything that stinks worse that a "nasty" grey water tank.....not even the black tank IMHO... Id sure be looking at the traps ...dry or non existant.

Have Toyo tires no odor. Have had odor from W/D. Washer Dryer P Trap dried out. Had odor in upstairs bathroom in foundation house.
P Trap dried out. Water needs to be in P Trap to prevent backflow of odors. Do not have hurricane heater.

Doug,

If you stopped driving through the black water after you dump, your tires wouldn't smell that way! ;-)

My Toyos don't smell, and they work great!

Did I forget to mention that CC gave up looking for a sewer leak and decided the smell was the tires?

Hi Ray

You are right on! That's what I was getting at. The "sickingly sweet smell" is from the Hurricane - either a leak or simply volatilization of coolant. CC worked on our for awhile and I understand Jon Fickle at CC has had some experience with it too.

I've asked Craig as Carrier's & Sons for advice and he has been working with CC.

Let's see what we can all come up with and help one another.

I had the same problem with my coach. The heat would build up in the lines and the heaters were turned off.

I think that whoever told you that at CC was pulling your ying yang. Did you go to another person, possibly someone in a higher authoratative position? If you are in JC area, you might want to go to Greg at Carriers.
Greg knows CCs and if anyone can sniff out a problem, he probably can. It is not logical to blame this odor on your tires. Dale

I had a sewer smell once too. CC also gave up on looking for the source of mine until Carrier's & Sons found it. Cause??? The toilet was never vented through the roof. And that was after CC checked it - three times.

I suggest you ask CC to keep on looking.

I am writing from experience. Find where your washer drain hose empties and pour some good GREY WATER treatment soloution directly into the hose drain. Note: Pouring it into the sinks or shower drains will not do it. How much do you use? Use it until the smell is gone.
Hey it worked for me.

Happy smelling
