Dash heater boost pump

Hello everyone, it's been awhile since I last posted anything here. This post is to give my appreciation to Kevin Waite. Last weekend I experienced a severe coolant leak, I thought it was a radiator hose, but it turned out to be the dash heater boost pump leaking badly. I took the coach to Cummins Atlantic in Chesapeake Virginia and they diagnosed the problem, but we're unable to locate a replacement pump. I called Kevin on Tuesday and he said he could have a pump by Friday. Kevin is a man true to his word, he shipped me the pump today. We are very fortunate to have a man like Kevin to help obtain parts for these older coaches. If you ever need help with your coach give Kevin a call

Earl. I agree with your comments regarding Kevin Waite. I have an 06 intrigue 12047 where Was your pump located? Was the bedroom floor panel removed to access the pump? Bob

There is a second pump up front so you really don't need to replace the rear pump. The rear pump will fail again because of heat off the engine, where the pump up front is in a much cooler environment. What you need to look out for next is the failure of the small hose that comes off the top of the engine and wyes to the over flow tank and to the top of the radiator. It will surly fail as will the small hoses to the diesel heat and to and from the genset.

I'm not sure if the pump was accessible via the engine cover, it is located above the transmission, I could see where the hose connected, but my arms were not long enough to do any work on it.
Good to know about the 2nd pump, Kevin had suggested that Cummins just by-pass the bad pump, but the Cummins Service manager refused claimed it was a safety issue. Thanks everyone for the inputs.

Same thing happened to me. Lost 11 gals. The pump is between the drive and tag wheels, mounted on a cross member with 4 nuts and bolts. No access from above. I couldn't get the bolts out, so cut and plugged the 2 hoses going to the pump. Now I'll wait until I can get to a CC tech with a pit or a lift to remove and replace the pump. It looks like the pump housing split. Hope I don't need any dash heat this summer. :-)

Gary. I have a 06 intrigue 12047 with a 400 ISL. I had a cummins service man inspect the entire Coach front to back looking for the pump location and I had a spare pump to show him what The pump looked like. This guy is experienced with motor coachs and we both agree I don't Have one. He said the 400 ISL can put out up to 15psi which should be plenty of hot coolant to the front heater coil. I have called CCC with the question but have not had a response Bob

Saw your post and wanted to let you know I had the same issue with that pump and lost coolant but mine was leaking bad and could not travel.

I lucked out and got a local mobile service, David's Mobile Service, 757 244- 1280. He found the part on line and let me place the order and shipped to my house. He came back and installed.

We all try to figure out CC reason for running the pump any time the ignition is on and figure Hot Water must be the priority.

We have had our 01' Intrigue for 11 years and live in Newport News, VA.

Read your post. I have had problem with my boost pump more than once. I am on my third one, when installing it, I decided to put a rocker switch in so I could turn it off when I did not need hot water going up front. No problem since. Rocker switch is a red light one, so you can see it when it is turned on. I put mine near the bedroom in hallway, easy to see. Why they had it run all the time is beyond me. This little pump can not take full time running. This was very easy to do. Cut into hot side running to pump, run to switch and back to pump. Good luck, Ray

I pulled the fuse for the dash pumps long ago. In my coach they unecessary. Enough dash heat to make my knees hot. Rich 2002 Magna
