98 intrigue onan maquis 5600 propane generator

Ran out of fuel against closed supply valve. Now generator will not start. Starter motor runs but starter gear does not engage. If this was a car I would say it needed a new starter solenoid. How do I check this out? James.

HELLO ALL

Is there anyone here that has had a similar problem with an Onan generator? Any idea on where to start? Does the generator have something like a solenoid?
