Dust Blowing

I have a 2003 Allure that the "fan speed" runs on HIGH beginning @ Coolant Temp. of 90 degrees, this just started after a year, CC sent a new fan controller (properly programmed) and it did not correct the problem.

Anyone experience simialar issues and find the FIX?

mike, i had the same thing with my fan, no one liked me when i came into a campground... fix, was something with a vale on the hyd. side it would not open or closed. one or the other.. sorry, i do not have more infor. for you. but hope, this well give you hope.... good luck capt. dan 2000 allure 30498

Mike, I had the same problem with a 2000 Intrigue and then with my present rig, a 2003 Allure. It seems there's alot of trial and error in finding the solution. My Allure had a new controller installed which helped for awhile, but then it reverted to running too often, too fast. The main thing that bothered me was engine operating temp at about 175 degs. A Tech at Buddy Gregg-Dallas finally found the wire from the heat sensor to the controller was laying too close to a heat source ( I think the exhaust.) He re-routed the wire and solved the problem. The 2000 Intrigue was laid up for weeks and everything wa replaced,i.e. controller, sensors and even the fan motor. I don't think they ever did decide what finally solved the problem.

Mike, As you have already replaced the controller board the most likely fault is with the sensor circuit. Start your engine when cold and IMMEDIATELY go outside to the radiator location. If the fan is blowing hard even with the engine cold you most likely have a faulty sensor in the block or a damaged wire connection.
Look for the wire connection from the sensor. You can see it with the rear hatch open. Make sure it is routed away from any hot area. If this is OK, then the next step is the sensor. You will need to reach this via the hatch inside the bedroom. Once removed you may find the end of the sensor broken or missing. If that is the case, there is the problem.
It is important to realize that the system operates with a "fail safe mode". In other words, if for any reason the sensor fails or the connections to the controller, the system will assume a worst case scenario, i.e. a hot engine, and immediatelly operate the fan on high speed to cool the engine even if the engine is actually cold.

Mike, just re read your note and see you have a 2003 probably with the ISL 370. My explanation of the problem was related to the 350 ISC and the location or the sensor and routing of the connections may be different on your engine. However the concept is the same.

There are three sensors that infuence the fan speed controller. They are: Engine coolant temp., Charge Air Temp., and the A/C trinary switch. Any one of these going bad can cause your problem. The most likely suspect is the Engine coolant temp sensor needs to be replaced.

Hi Mike:

Check to see if the fuse is present for the wire controlling the fan. When they (CC at 2002 rally) checked my dust storm problem they did all the trouble shooting and then found that the fuse was never installed in the fuse box at the factory.

Even if the engine temp is cool and within limits, the fan is activated by the cab A/C system, No? I have scanned through the fan controller bulletin listed on this site under the photo section.
I try to cool the engine down, idle for a few minutes, then turn off the A/C when in dusty areas. Sometimes it works.

Larry, I've got the "dash air off". At 63 degrees outside temp. and 89 degrees "coolant temp" it will its a Kansas Dust Strom.

I had sensors replaced but the problem still persisted. I was told to shut the dash A/C off prior to pulling into a RV park but that didn't work either. I'm told that CC is now installing a baffle under the fan on all new Allures and Intrigues that deflects the air to the side rather than downward. I'm told this alleviates the problem. I have one on order and am hopeful it will solve the problem. See posts 4074 & 4490 on this site for more info.
